Godzilla Minus One Director Praised How Hollywood Handled Godzilla
Toho International’s Monsterverse has acutely established Godzilla in the mainstream media which led to the movie dominating popular culture at several points in history. With a splendid edition to the popular cinematic franchise, Takashi Yamazaki’s recent flick Godzilla Minus One has revived the monster with brilliant depiction. Now, the director has reflected on one of Toho International’s major flaws that Hollywood corrected.
“The Hollywood interpretation of Godzilla is a very interesting use of the IP. It can endure and survive many different interpretations. To me, it’s a more fun version of what Godzilla can be – the classic Toho version did explore something like that at one point in its history. Within that genre, I think they do a good job of [balancing] what the humans do, versus what the kaiju are doing,” Yamazaki told Empire Magazine (via ComicBook.com).
The resurrection of Godzilla is certainly a good news for fans. Godzilla Minus One proved that there are still potential stories to be told within the Monsterverse. As Hollywood is yet again zooming their lens into the franchise with the upcoming movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the future of the franchise seems to be on the rise.
