The Marvel camp and the MCU have a lot lined up in the future which is all leading up to the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars that is expected to release in 2027. Avengers: Endgame heralded the end of an era with many iconic characters including Iron Man and Captain America culminating their arcs.
Now, Marvel buffs are eagerly making guesses regarding the storyline of the next film and the superheroes and villains who will play a pivotal role in it. While Kevin Feige and team have not divulged anything yet, this is not stopping fans from forming their own theories. One hyped fan theory sees Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland sharing screen space together once again.
One Avengers: Secret Wars Theory Hints At These Spider-Man Actors Reuniting On Screen
One of the biggest talking points of Spider-Man: No Way Home was the brilliant scene in which the worlds of 3 Spider-Man characters played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland collide. Apart from the narrative that allowed this collaboration to take place seamlessly, the chemistry between the 3 stars was a defining factor in the film’s massive success.
Now, according to an exciting fan theory, the actors could share screen space once more in Avengers: Secret Wars. In a discussion on the Just The Nobodys podcast, two Marvel buffs discussed the possibilities of how Maguire, Garfield, and Holland could bring their respective Spider-Man characters into the narrative.
According to the theory, Holland could be seen wearing the famous symbiote black suit that Maguire wore in Spider-Man 3 which resulted in the webbed superhero becoming a dark and negative character in the film. This speculation stems from the fact that a piece of the symbiote was seen to have been left on Earth 616 at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Elaborating further, the podcasters referred to the 1984 Secret Wars comics in which Peter Parker gets hit with the black substance that ultimately enhances his abilities but affects him emotionally. This could be the storyline that could come into play for the Spider-Man: Homecoming star in Avengers: Secret Wars.
In addition, Garfield’s Spider-Man is also expected to join forces with Maguire’s character to warn Holland about the dangers of the symbiote suit. This could lead to a major confrontation between the 3 characters that could form an important storyline in the film.
Could Iron Man And Captain America Return In Avengers: Secret Wars?
There is no doubt that Iron Man and Captain America are two of Marvel’s greatest superheroes. While Avengers: Endgame saw both characters’ arcs culminate in emotional fashion, a little teaser from Kevin Feige in October 2023 could indicate that he may be considering bringing them back in the near future for Avengers: Secret Wars.
The head honcho of Marvel created excitement on social media through his statement that seemed to hint at the revival of certain marquee characters. Speaking at The Watch podcast, author of the Marvel book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios Joanna Robinson quoted Feige’s words regarding his vision for the Marvel franchise leading up to the next Avengers film.
“We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything… That’s not to use a Loki-ism. They’ll prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is, or bring back people you thought were gone forever.”
While it is still unclear which characters, if at all, could be brought back in the 2027 film, audiences will have their fingers crossed to see if Feige would revive the arcs of Marvel’s icons Captain America and Iron Man based on what he has hinted in the quote. As of now, he has played his cards extremely close to his chest regarding the path the film will take.
