Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Prime Video’s Fallout TV Show just dropped the trailer for their upcoming show, and it looks to be on par if not exceeding the expectations upon it. Just like HBO has spent some time dedicating itself to ensuring The Last of Us is faithful, Prime Video looks to have taken the same care and attention with Fallout, and according to Bethesda’s own Todd Howard, all of the plaudits go to Jonathan Nolan and the crew above all others.
Prime Video’s Fallout TV Show is about as Faithful as We Could Have Hoped For
Speaking at Prime Video’s Fallout press conference last night, Todd Howard couldn’t help but heap praise on his creative counterpart and the crew of the show, saying:
It’s been a great collaboration [with] everybody on this stage and what they’ve done. For someone like me and the team here at Bethesda, it’s just a real blessing to see what they’ve done with it.
Todd Howard is notoriously pedantic with the smallest of details in his Bethesda games, which is part of the reason why the worlds of Bethesda are always so gloriously designed and fun to explore. It seems that with the input of Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, and more the Prime Video TV show may follow that same energy, as Howard went on to say:
I mean, the authenticity they brought to it, the obsessive nature. We like to say when we make the games that we obsess over every pixel. And Jonah and crew, they obsessed over every pixel of every frame, just to make it authentic.
It’s been no secret that the Fallout TV show has been coming, but many fans were understandably hesitant to get their hopes up, even with the roaring success and faithful adaptation that was HBO’s The Last of Us, but this trailer should put pay to that.
The Press Conference Confirmed More than Nolan’s Obsessive Nature
Nearly half an hour in length, Prime Video’s press conference was as much about the answers from the cast and crew as it was about seeing the trailer. Nolan was by far the most talkative, and some of his answers will be music to the ears of long-time Bethesda and Fallout fans.
As previously explained in past interviews, the setting of Prime Video’s Fallout TV show is a new story in the same history as that of the games. Now whilst you won’t be running over and seeing the familiar faces of Megaton, or popping into New Vegas (we don’t think), there’s every chance that the events of the games will be referenced in some way. As Nolan put it, “it’s almost Fallout 5”.
As well as that, we found out the release date (April 11th), but also the fact that ALL episodes are dropping on day one. It seems Prime Video wants to shock and awe everyone with all the content in one big lump, rather than drip-feeding it to us weekly, and like yourselves, we are okay with that.
