Alejandro G. Iñárritu Will Helm Tom Cruise’s Mystery WB Project
After Tom Cruise is done with the filming of Mission: Impossible 8 and the unnamed Doug Liman film, he will return to WB to co-produce and star in a mystery project. Cruise’s collaboration with WB occurs after ten years, with their last film together being Edge of Tomorrow. According to Deadline, the new film is being helmed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
Iñárritu made his mark in Hollywood with the Oscar-winning film Birdman in 2014. The film also earned him Oscars for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. He received his consecutive Best Director Oscar the next year for The Revenant. After the two exhausting films, the 21 Grams director took a long break from Hollywood until now.
Iñárritu wrote the script for the new film alongside Sabina Berman and his two co-writers from Birdman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone. The Oscar-winning trio’s script itself is a big factor that hypes up the new movie. Following the completion of the script in 2023, the Babel director met with a few actors recently to cast in the film.
According to reports, Cruise sought out the director once he became aware that Iñárritu was ready to take on his next big studio film. The project also became the first film in his strategic partnership with WBD. As soon as he met with the director, the duo hit it off.
What Makes This Film More Exciting Than Tom Cruise’s Other Projects Including Top Gun 3?
While Tom Cruise remains one of the top-earning stars in the industry, his Awards haven’t justified his box office performance. He was nominated for multiple Academy Awards but never won one in his career. It almost reminds fans of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s continued losing streak at the Oscars, starting from the 1994 Academy Awards.
DiCaprio’s losing streak was ended by his collaboration with Iñárritu in the film The Revenant. Besides winning the Best Director award for Iñárritu, the film also won the Best Actor award for DiCaprio.
