It’s always been a treat for us when our childhood memories come back in a new avatar. That’s what The Rogue Prince of Persia feels like. The Prince is back to continue his adventure from the Metroidvanian journey, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
This game was revealed on April 10, 2024, with a trailer during the Triple I Initiative live stream and will be available for early access on May 14, 2024, on Steam. The Rogue Prince of Persia is developed by Dead Cells’ famed Evil Empire.
The Rogue Prince of Persia: A Complete Overview
The Rogue Prince of Persia is also going to be a 2D platformer. The game takes place in Tisphon, the capital of a fictional Persian empire under siege by the Hun army. The prince will pave his way to free his empire against the Hun army, infested with dark shamanic magic. Unlike the previous title, The Lost Crown, you can actually control a prince who can self-revive with a magical orb every time he dies.
This game totally feels like another famous 2D platformer, Dead Cells. Both of the games were developed by Evil Empire, so that’s why there’s an uncanny similarity between the games. This newest addition to the Prince of Persia franchise features fluid animation.
As previously mentioned, this is an endless roguelike setting, which means you will restart if you die. This cycle repeats until you upgrade your skills and weapons to fully complete the game. Talking about upgrades, you will have to collect gold through your gameplay for permanent upgrades.
The graphics are inspired by the comics, with a hip-hop-inspired background score, which makes the gameplay more adventurous.
This game features ranged and melee attacks with different kinds of melee weapons like swords, hammers, spears, and double daggers. The prince can equip secondary weapons as well, like shields, grappling hooks, and bows.
