The Assassin’s Creed franchise has had its fair share of ups and downs throughout its long-running history, as fans fell in love with the straightforward historical stealth adventure that Ubisoft originally used to offer with its flagship series. However, as time went by, the games started becoming a little too ambitious, and at one point, especially with Odyssey and Valhalla, they got converted into extremely bloated RPGs, which was a change that didn’t exactly sit right with the core AC fanbase.

Fortunately, the studio heard the player feedback and went back to the franchise’s roots with last year’s Mirage.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Was Proof That Ubisoft Needs to Care About Feedback From Fans

There are some notable features that fans really do not want to see return in Assassin's Creed Red.

With Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft backtracked on the unnecessary RPG elements that had plagued the previous games in the series and decided to focus on the linear story, quiet tailing, and spectacular assassinations that made the franchise so amazing in the first place. Since a wide majority of the OG AC fans had been asking for these changes for years, the studio listening actually worked, and the Baghdad-set title was well-received by the community.

That proved that if a developer shows that it cares about its player base, it can do wonders for a video game’s fate.

Another request that fans had been making for a long time was an Assassin’s Creed game set in Feudal Japan, and it appears that Ubisoft once again paid attention to player feedback with the announcement of the upcoming title called Red. With the ball back in the studio’s court, it can avoid messing things up if it continues to listen to the community, as it does seem to have quite a few interesting ideas.

Putting an unconventional twist on an otherwise general question, a Reddit user took to the AC subreddit and asked fellow players about what they don’t want to see in Red, and one response stood out the most.

The user responded by saying that with Assassin’s Creed Red, they want Ubisoft “to focus on one single narrative, no branching paths, none of that,” which was a huge problem with the RPG titles in the series like Odyssey and Valhalla. In those games, there were way too many deviations from the main story, which ended up feeling quite lackluster, dull, and all over the place due to the endless repetitive side quests constantly being thrown at the players.

Since the Feudal Japan-set AC will supposedly have two protagonists, the Redditor gave examples of other AAA gems like Spider-Man 2 and GTA V, stating that they perfectly showed the way in which a studio “can handle multiple protagonists with one clear and straightforward narrative.”

The Fan Wants Some Other Things From Assassin’s Creed Red as Well

According to a fan, Assassin's Creed Mirage suffered from technical issues, with Basim looking a bit outdated.

Although most of the gaming community appreciated the way Ubisoft handled Assassin’s Creed Mirage, there were a couple of gripes that the Reddit user had with the Baghdad-set title. The fan stated that they “want to see better character models and animation” in the upcoming Feudal Japan-set Red since Mirage was not exactly a marvel on the technical front.

The player continued that the studio’s “animation using scripting has gone absolutely terribly” and that it needs to improve the franchise in that aspect.

The Reddit user then compared the Assassin’s Creed Mirage protagonist Basim with some other titles’ characters that were released in 2023, and according to them, “he seemed so out of date.” Which is why Ubisoft has to put in more work when it comes to the tech side of the series.
