Sydney Sweeney, star of the upcoming rom-com Anyone but You, has revealed she got bitten for real by a spider while filming the movie! In the film, Sweeney and Glen Powell play two people who fake a relationship at a destination wedding in Australia, despite secretly loathing each other.
During her appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday to discuss the movie, Sweeney disclosed that she experienced a real spider bite during a scene involving a huntsman spider in the film.
Sydney Sweeney Was Bit by a ‘Real Spider‘ While Filming Anyone But You
Sydney Sweeney revealed that she was bitten by a real spider in one scene while she was filming her highly anticipated rom-com Anyone But You in Australia.
While appearing on Live with Kelly and Mark to promote her movie, she addressed the mild injury she suffered.
“That was a real spider. It bit me. It was a huntsman. While we were filming that scene, it bit me. It hurt so bad, I had horrible, horrible marks on my hand. I had to take meds and everything. Because anything can kill you in Australia.”
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sweeney shared the actual footage of her being bit by a spider, starting at the 6:50 minute mark.
“They told me it was trained,” Sweeney said of the arachnid. “I don’t know how you train a freaking spider. There’s no way.”
A recent trailer for Anyone But You teases a scene where Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) attend a wedding in Australia, pretending to be a couple. In one particular scene, the duo engages in a playful moment during a staged hike. Bea discovers a sizable spider in Ben’s pants, promptly removing it and tossing it aside. While Ben, in a hilariously panicked response, sheds his clothes, desperate to escape any other potential eight-legged hitchhikers.
Glen Powell was the Only One Who Finally Caught On
Sweeney also appeared on the Today show alongside Glen Powell, and the two shared more details about the scene. The Euphoria star said that at first, everyone thought she was just being very dramatic there. She said:
“The spider actually bit me in the middle of the scene, but nobody called cut because they thought I was just making a very dramatic, interesting choice in this scene.”
She added: “Glen was the only one who finally caught on — they thought I was acting but it actually bit me.”
To this, Powell responded: “There’s a different tone to her voice when somebody is actually being bit by a spider. We just thought it was really dramatic improv.”
After Anyone but You, Sweeney stars in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movie, Madame Web, which also stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb. In the Marvel movie, Sweeney plays the role of Julia Carpenter, also known as Spider-Woman.
Anyone but You hits theaters on December 22.
