Despite its widespread acclaim, certain elements, including the action sequences and the level of violence, left some fans divided. In a revealing insight, the writer of the show Beau DeMayo shared the inspiration behind the intensity of violence in the show, revealing a surprising parallel to Chris Evans’ Captain America films.

Captain America Movies Significantly Influenced Moon Knight’s Violence

While Marvel has recently embraced a more mature approach to its projects, has steered clear of incorporating R-rated content into its franchise. It has left some fans disappointed, especially when it comes to certain characters not fully embodying the intense nature depicted in the comics.

The same has been the case with Moon Knight. While the character has been depicted to be quite unhinged in comics, the level of violence portrayed in the show fell short of expectations. Beau DeMayo, the writer of the series, addressed this issue during a conversation with The Direct.

He revealed the level of intensity in the series was significantly influenced by Chris EvansCaptain America films. “We had been told we can sit in the Captain America violence realm,” he shared before adding, “And we just kind of knew to stay there.”

DeMayo shared that they were advised to strike a balance with the intensity found in movies like The Winter Soldier and Civil War. The Winter Soldier is considered one of the best MCU movies, as it expands on MCU themes, from delving into political themes to revolutionizing action sequences within the franchise.

DeMayo shared that while Moon Knight’s violence may be more intense in some aspects, both characters are depicted as channeling emotional trauma through physical combat, and it allowed them to honor the “spirits of the comics” that these shows and movies are based on.

“No, people have been asking me and maybe that’s why, because of ‘The Complete First Season’ of the Blu-ray, but no, I’ve heard nothing. I’ve heard nothing about it.”

She also expressed her enthusiasm for a potential second season, adding, “If they do a season 2, I am on board. I loved it so much, but I haven’t gotten any phone calls.” The 4K UHD and Blu-ray steelbook, featuring concept art cards, deleted scenes, and the Marvel Studios: Assembled documentary special The Making of Moon Knight is set to release on April 30, 2024.
