For those who don’t know, Dwayne Johnson a.k.a The Rock made a surprise appearance on the WWE SmackDown last week, leaving the WWE fandom wild. As he faced Roman Reigns, the actor hinted that he could fight against Reigns at WrestleMania 40 this coming April. Actor Dwayne Johnson posted the teaser of his highly anticipated sequel of Moana, Moana 2 on his Instagram but it was instantly met with criticism due to Johnson’s WWE comeback. Instead of focusing on the trailer, fans have been posting #WeWantCody under his post, with comments like, “Hope it flops like Black Adams since you ruin the main event we wanted. #wewantcody” and “Don’t care we want cody.” These comments have caused a lot of confusion among Johnson’s fans who are not familiar with his WWE side.

Johnson left WWE in 2004 but returned in 2011 as a part-time performer until 2013. Since then, he has been making minor appearances but during his last appearance, which was on February 2, 2024, the Rock made a return to SmackDown and confronted Roman Reigns. WWE’s Twitter page later announced that the Rock would be at the WrestleMania XL Press Event to go face-to-face with Reigns again.

The reason why Johnson is being criticized along with WWE is due to the fact that he would be replacing Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes earned his spot at WrestleMania 40 by winning the men’s Royal Rumble for the second year in a row and it is unfair for Johnson to cut the line.

Fans have been chanting “We want Cody” at WWE’s live events as well and the hashtag #WeWantCody has been trending on social media for the past few days. Many believe that it’s impossible to make this change as Johnson would certainly help in attracting a lot of viewers.
