Since it was announced that David Corenswet would be playing the role of Superman, fans can’t help but be excited. While they are trying to hold onto the past with Henry Cavill’s version, they cannot help but accept that things are beginning to change, and who better to lead it than someone as talented as Corenswet?
However, before it was announced that he got the role, two other actors were running for the role; Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult. Although DC and James Gunn made an excellent decision when they decided to go for Corenswet, there is no denying that the days leading up to the reveal were quite straining for both the fans and those involved.
However, it would seem that the Superman: Legacy star had all the support he needed when he was going through the audition process.
David Corenswet Was Booked and Busy
Although David Corenswet is going to be occupied now that he is the new Superman, he has always been a well-known figure, featuring in some very high-profile works and making a name for himself with it. The most recent example would have to be his film Twisters, where he is starring alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Kiernan Shipka.
Lee Isaac Chung, the director of the movie, gave a new interview with Inside Total Film, where he talked about various behind-the-scenes details about the making of the project. Interestingly enough, he touched on the subject of Corenswet getting the role of Superman, and what he revealed was quite interesting.
It would seem that the audition process for Superman: Legacy started when Twisters was still filming. This meant that the actor would frequently have to balance both projects, focusing on the job that he had committed to while trying to ace the biggest opportunity of his career.
David Corenswet Had a Lot of Support
It is only natural that when someone is trying to balance two very important projects, they are going to be very stressed. However, it would seem that the set of Twisters made it somewhat easier for David Corenswet. During the interview, Lee Isaac Chung revealed that the entire cast and crew were extremely supportive of the actor and his auditions for the then titled, Superman: Legacy.
While they weren’t very vocal about their bias and wanted to simply wish him good luck, Chung mentioned that everyone was wishing that he would get the role. Not because they were close to him and knew how badly he wanted it, but because of just how well he would fit the character.
I remember, we were all really secretly rooting for him… He is such an imposing and big presence and larger than life – but there’s this genuine purity to him, in a weird way, that I feel fits in a lot with Superman.
The director revealed that Corenswet has a presence that makes him grandiose. Despite this, the sense of purity and goodness that he possesses makes him the perfect candidate for the role, having the exact amount of groundedness needed to play the Son of Krypton.
It is safe to say that DC and James Gunn made the right choice when they were picking the next Superman.
Superman will be released in theaters on 11 July 2025.
