The DC head and filmmaker, James Gunn, is gearing up for the launch of the new DCU with shows like Creature Commandos, which will premiere later this year, and Superman: Legacy set to start its principal photography in Atlanta this week. With Gunn’s DCU projects gaining momentum, recent reports have surfaced regarding the film’s estimated budget, suggesting it could become one of the most expensive films ever made.
The budget of the film is reported to be $64 million more than the budget of the 2017 DC film Justice League. And these rumors prompted Gunn to address yet another speculation swirling around the new DC Universe.
James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Rumored to Have a Budget of $364 Million
Since its inception, James Gunn’s DC Universe has been shrouded in rumors, with the latest speculation revolving around the highly anticipated DCU film starring David Corenswet. With principal photography for Superman: Legacy set to commence in Atlanta this week, a report from The Business Journal stated that it is estimated to have a total budget of more than $363.8 million.
The alleged staggering budget surpasses even the hefty price tag of $300 million for the 2017 DC film Justice League, aligning it with other superhero films, including MCU’s Avengers movies. And as fans got curious about the hefty budget, they turned to the filmmaker himself, asking if the reported cost was true or false.
Gunn offered a candid response to the query, as he swiftly debunked the rumors, saying, “Absolutely not. How in the world do they think they know what our budget is?” The budget for the upcoming DC film, however, is yet to be revealed.
However, if Superman: Legacy boasted a budget of $364 million, it would have placed it among the most expensive superhero films of all time. So far, Marvel’s Avengers movies have the highest budgets in the superhero genre, with Age of Ultron taking the top spot with a reported cost exceeding $444 million.
