Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has offered a promising update on the potential fourth season of the horror thriller. Based on Thomas Harris’ novel series, the show featured Mikkelsen in the lead role of Hannibal, a forensic psychiatrist who is also secretly a serial killer. While the series received significant praise for its cast’s performance, it was canceled after it failed to bring in significant numbers for the network.
However, in a recent interview with Business Insider, The Promised Land star revealed that there are plans to bring back the series with a fourth season, as he shared that they are all eager to return to the show.
Mads Mikkelsen Expressed Optimism For Hannibal Season 4
Mads Mikkelsen shared optimistic updates for the potential revival of the acclaimed series Hannibal for a fourth season. During his interview with Business Insider, he also shared that he, along with the rest of the cast and the show creator Fuller, are eager to revisit the dark and rippling narrative that captivated the audience during its initial run.
“It’s no secret that all of us who were part of the cast and Bryan, we all want to go back. It’s got to happen eventually sooner than later because we’re not getting any younger, right?”
He also shared that Hannibal Season 4 could feature a time jump due to almost a decade-long gap between the third and fourth seasons. Although Mikkelsen shared that there are “a few ideas” about its revival, he did not reveal any further details about it in case the project finally gets off the ground.
The Hunt actor implied that the current moment is the opportunity for reviving the show, given the prolonged hiatus and actors aging out of their roles. As of now, the season 3 finale, which aired in August 2015, is considered the series finale. The show was abruptly canceled after three seasons, leaving fans with a cliffhanger.
Mads Mikkelsen Felt Nostalgic Working on Dust Bunny
While the return of Hannibal remains uncertain, Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller are set to reunite for the upcoming horror thriller film Dust Bunny. The actor has shared that working with Fuller brought back a sense of nostalgia from their time on the NBC show.
Discussing his upcoming film, he said, “But then I got the chance to work with him on Dust Bunny, so I got a little whiff of the old times.” Starring Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian alongside Mikkelsen, the film follows an eight-year-old girl who seeks help from her neighbor to kill the monster under her bed, claiming that the monster ate her family. As Mikkelsen and Fuller continue to work on the movie, the actor’s recent statement has also suggested that they could soon return with Hannibal Season 4 as well.
Hannibal is available to stream on Prime Video.
