“We’ve poked the Terminid swarm…”: Did Helldivers 2 Dev Just Confirm Our Worst Fears? New Terminid Hive Lord Unit May Be Coming After Latest Warning

SUMMARY

  • Helldivers recently got rid of two major threats, the two billion Terminids and Automatons in the Galactic West.
  • However, the community manager suggests both factions are pushing hard and attempting to reclaim territory.
  • This could possibly mean bigger threats arriving for players in the game.

Helldivers 2 seems to be on a roll, giving players enough content and challenges to keep busy with. While Automatons continued to plague the game and bother players right from the start, developers, Arrowhead Studios, have from time to time released Major Orders giving the community collective challenges to fight the Automatons.

The players have not stayed behind in any way, delivering crushing blows to the mechanized Automatons. Just recently, the players came together to kill a massive army of two billion Terminds in a matter of hours. But just when players are rejoicing in their victory, a new challenge awaits.

Arrowhead hints at more Terminids coming in Helldivers 2

As Helldivers strive to spread democracy to bots and bugs on Super Earth in Helldivers 2, they recently managed to beat two big forces in the game. This includes the massacre of two billion Terminids in half a day and pushing back the Automatons in the Galactic West.

Although it seemed like a relief and players were still enjoying the feeling of victory, their respite may just have been cut short. Helldivers 2 community manager Spitz, recently issued a note to the game’s Discord channel talking about the current Major Order. In the note, Spitz revealed,

“I don’t want to pull back the curtain too much, but this MO is set up so that players are intentionally going to lose ground on one of the two fronts.”

He further says that while players were busy killing the Terminids, it actually provided a 13-hour break for the bots, giving them time to reunite. They said,

“We’ve poked the Terminid swarm and allowed the Automatons time to regroup. So both factions are pushing hard and attempting to reclaim territory. Defend Events will be frequent and players now have to choose which front they want to fight on, but it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to hold them all.”

Spitz ended the note sharing one last bit of key advice for fellow Helldivers before they enter a supposedly “Dark Age.” They said players should choose the planets to focus on carefully.

What could this possibly mean?

Going by what the community manager said, the Terminids may be out seeking revenge from divers following Major Order of the slaying of the two billion members of their species. Additionally, it has been observed that the Terminids are usually not taken that seriously, and probably that is why the devs launched the two billion bug bloodbath Major Order.

There is a possibility that a new Helldivers 2 Terminid unit may be making its way into the game, just to spread their fear and make divers take the bugs more seriously. Besides, Johan Pilestedt, the game’s creative director, had mentioned in the past that there was a new Terminid strain evolving in the game.

Apart from the Terminids, there have been speculations about Hive Lords being added to the game. Hive Lords were a part of the first Helldivers game but were not seen in the second installment at launch. There are fan theories that suggest the Illuminate, led by the Hive Lords, were once involved in an intergalactic war against the Terminids.

To strengthen the theory of Hive Lords, several players have reported the presence of large fossils in the game spread around the galaxy. These fossils are speculated to be the Hive Lords, who were once wiped out of existence after a war.

The emergence of these newer foes and the resurgence of the existing ones seems like a higher possibility from the developmental front too. Given how the community completed the recent Major Order of killing two billion Terminds, a task that was expected to be completed in six days, within just 12 hours, the devs are certainly running out of options to keep players engaged. It is likely that the devs are thinking of introducing a new unit to keep the divers engaged.
