The finale of Loki Season 2 premiered earlier this year and gave fans the first sign of how the end of the Multiverse Saga might look like.
Tom Hiddleston’s god of mischief, showed willingness to sacrifice his life, his friends, and his family to save the TVA and ensure the flow of all space and time. He grabs the very fabric of space-time and builds a throne of his own before weaving the threads together to create a tree. Accordingly, Loki crowns himself master of the multiverse, who possesses the ability to allow multiverses to exist without multiversal conflicts.
The tree he made appeared like Yggdrasil, which comes from Norse mythology. The reference to The Tree of Life seemingly marked the end of the multiverse interventions and with it, the saga itself. Now, the ending of What If…? Season 2 has also seemingly given a nod to the same idea.
How What If…? and Loki Season 2 Opened Doors for Marvel to End the Multiverse Saga
In the final What If…? Season 2 episode, titled What If… Strange Supreme Intervened?, Strange Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) asks Peggy (Hayley Atwell) to help with an adversary. The demented sorcerer has captured dozens of superheroes and villains with a plan to sacrifice them in exchange for his love, Christine. Strange has a history of abusing his abilities to bring back Christine despite her death being an absolute point in time.
This leads to a face-off between Strange and Captain Carter and Kahhori. After Strange’s defeat, the Watcher offers to bring Peggy back to her home universe. However, she has different plans.
The Watcher and Peggy look out onto Yggdrasil, the tree MCU fans saw during Loki Season 2’s conclusion. The reference to The Tree of Life once again confirms the idea of multiversal conflicts reaching their endpoint.
While this does provide Marvel Studios a great opportunity to abandon the Multiverse Saga, which has garnered mixed opinions, there’s no confirmation concerning the same. In fact, Deadpool 3 is set to be a multiversal, time-related story.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 to Explore the Multiverse Saga
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Hugh Jackman are partnering for MCU’s only scheduled release of 2024. In the first two Deadpool movies, Wade Wilson ran his big mouth and fought off adversaries without any help from Logan. Jackman’s iconic X-Men character stopped using claws following the end of 2017’s Logan.
As such, many fans of Fox’s X-Men franchise continue to wonder just how Wolverine would be introduced in Deadpool 3. Tackling similar doubts, Jackman revealed on SiriusXM that the upcoming comedy will use time travel.
“But then I just put it aside and I was like, ‘No, no I’m done.’ And then we made ‘Logan’ and I was super happy with it,” he said. “But all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines now we can go back, because, you know, it’s science. And so I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans too.”
The timing of the movie is also interesting, as the MCU is approaching the final phase of the Multiverse, which is planned to conclude with Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel fans would want to keep a close eye on how the Reynolds starrer will set up Secret Wars.
