The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gearing up to unleash a new team of heroes, or perhaps anti-heroes, onto the big screen with the upcoming film “Thunderbolts.” This movie, scheduled for a May 2025 release, takes inspiration from the long-running comic book series featuring a group of reformed supervillains trying to walk the straight and narrow.

Fans are a bit excited to see a new team make waves in the most-grossing movie franchise of all time. But recent updates and rumors have not been very appealing to the fandom, leaving some fans with a sinking feeling.

Some new reports have stirred the MCU fandom. As per CanWeGetToast, Marvel did not consider Thaddeus Ross and Tiamut Island for the film. Firstly, it is weird that the incident concerning Tiamut in Eternals has never been brought up again given its magnitude.

Second, Thaddeus Ross has reportedly a huge role to play in Captain America: New World Order and Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford has also been cast to play the role in MCU. Further, fans expect Ross to play the role of Red Hulk in ThunderBolts. Thus, this report has sent some disappointment to the fanbase.

The biggest letdown for many fans is the reported origin of the “Thunderbolts” team name. According to the reports, the name will be inspired by a childhood soccer team of Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh), which many find underwhelming This was enough to throw off fans who took to X to express their discomfort on the script.

After the announcement of Thunderbolts at the D23 Expo, fans have been looking forward to who would be the member of this anti-hero team. Leading the team is the enigmatic Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, whose motives remain unclear. Under her wing are Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes), Yelena Belova, Ghost (Ava Starr), Red Guardian (Alexei Shostakov), Taskmaster (Antonia Dreykov), and U.S. Agent (John Walker).

While their motivations remain unclear, this team, working for the government, walks a tightrope between good and bad, raising questions about their true purpose and the possibility of redemption in the face of challenging pasts. However, fans have been heavily disappointed with the exclusion of Baron Zemo, the guy who founded Thunderbolts in the comics.

The movie is currently scheduled to release on May 2, 2025.
