Prolific political commentator, satirist, and talk show host Bill Maher has reportedly fired his talent agency, the CAA. The Real Time host reportedly let go of his agency of twenty years as he was not invited to the private Oscar party hosted by the agency’s CEO, Bryan Lourd. The party in question was reportedly attended by Margot Robbie, Jennifer Aniston, and JJ Abrams among others.
Maher’s talk show Real Time With Bill Maher has been on the air since 2003 and is one of the longest-running originals on HBO. The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, keeping it on the air through 2026. Bill Maher stirred controversy earlier last year when he criticized Barbie for being a ‘Zombie Lie’ and a ‘man-hating’ film.
Bill Maher Fires The Creative Artists Agency Over An Oscar Party
Bill Maher is known for his sharp commentary on current events and has been known for his takes on many sociopolitical events of the decade. He has been on the air with his original talk show Real Time With Bill Maher since 2003 and has been one of the longest-running shows on the HBO channel. He has invited many noted journalists and subject matter experts to talk about the topic of the week.
Recently, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that he had fired his talent agency, the Creative Artists Agency. The comedian and the agency had been working together for more than two decades.
It was reported by THR that the reason why the talk show host had fired CAA was due to not being invited to an Oscar party hosted by the agency’s CEO, Bryon Lourd. According to the site, Maher was furious that he was snubbed for the event, which was held at the CEO’s home, and fired the agency. The party reported that JJ Abrams, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Margot Robbie, Bob Iger, and Kamala Harris among others were in attendance.
The party reportedly occurred the day before the ceremony on Saturday. The CAA Oscar’s party was reportedly held on Friday night, where many of its top clients such as Robbie, Yorgos Lanthimos, Cillian Murphy, Ryan Gosling, and other Oscar nominees. However, Maher reportedly attended the party hosted by WME a.k.a William Morris Endeavor (via THR).
Bill Maher Trashed Barbie On Social Media
While it is not known why Bill Maher was shunned by the CAA for the private Oscar party, many speculate that it was because of Maher’s opinion on the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer Barbie. Maher took to social media to talk about his opinion on the highest-grossing film of 2023. He said in an X (formerly Twitter) post,
“OK, “Barbie”: I was hoping it wouldn’t be preachy, man-hating, and a #ZombieLie – alas, it was all three. What is a Zombie Lie? Something that never was true, but certain people refuse to stop saying it (tax cuts for the rich increase revenues, e.g.); OR something that USED to be true but no longer is, but certain people pretend it’s still true. “Barbie” is this kind of #ZombieLie.”
Maher went on to say how Barbie fighting the ‘patriarchy’ in the form of the all-men board of Mattel was not realistic as in 2023, the board members of the corporation consisted of seven men and five women (it is six men and five women, via Mattel). He also said how the ‘patriarchy’ that the film mentioned did not exist and that the argument that he would not know about patriarchy because he was a man was ‘old and silly’.
Netizens took to social media to talk about how his firing the CAA for a snubbed party invitation was too much. They also mentioned how his inclusion in a party that honored much of the Barbie cast would have been awkward.
What movie was he in again?

What movie was Bill Maher in last year, I must have missed it and isn't he the one always going on and on about cancel cultural and being offended by everything?

BREAKING NEWS: Shitting all over the Barbie movie might get you disinvited from a party largely celebrating the stars and producer of the Barbie movie.

Either way, Bill Maher seems to have made his decision and has decided to move forth in his career without the CAA.
