It seems like the star is aware of these stakes that are on his shoulders to make good on, which is why he delved deeper into what made him choose to play this character on the big screen. Thus, in a recent interview, he revealed that once he read his character’s story arc, titled Kraven’s Last Hunt, he instantly knew he wanted this role.

But if this arc is to be brought to life in cinemas, it would require the presence of Spider-Man, one of the most prized trophies he wants to collect as without him, the story will be left untold.

With the release of Madame Web, people’s confidence in Sony’s Spidervers has sunk even deeper into the pits, which makes it all the more crucial for Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s upcoming Kraven The Hunter to be a smashing success. According to the star himself, he foresees this project to become just that because he had passion behind playing this character on the big screen.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Avengers: Age of Ultron star talked about his future in the industry as well as his vision for his career from his perspective. During the O&A, interviewer Christina Newland asked him what he felt about playing The Apex Predator in the upcoming Sony film. He revealed that while he wasn’t a big comic book fan, he felt attracted to this character after some research on him.

He stated that he had read one of the antagonist’s comic arcs, titled Kraven’s Last Hunt, which made him realize just how morbidly twisted and interesting he actually was. Johnson said:

“You just think, ‘What the fuck have I just read?’ That’s the kind of character I’m playing. But then, a lot of the people who grew up with Marvel are old enough now to watch an R-rated movie,”

While it isn’t certain that the aforementioned comic arc will be the basis for his next Marvel film, if it is, then it will definitely need the presence of Spider-Man in it.

While the film can obviously adapt only a few aspects of this arc, it would still require the presence of Tom Holland as the web-slinger in the narrative since the entire story starts with the villain taking down Spider-Man.

This arc follows Kraven proving once and for all that he’s stronger and better than his arch-nemesis by taking down Spider-Man and burying him alive in a cemetery. Then, he dons a replica of Spidey’s suit and pretends to be the superhero, but instead of bringing criminals to justice, he brutally kills them for good.

When Parker emerges from his burial site, he goes to confront Kraven and put an end to his charade. But once he reaches him, he finds that the hunter has no will to fight him as he has already proven himself better than the superhero. Later, he commits suicide after proving to himself he was better than his nemesis.

Kraven The Hunter, in cinemas on 30th August 2024.
