Microsoft as a tech giant has endeavored in many different fields, including making the most preferred operating systems, gaming consoles, and even smartphones. However, what they have particularly failed to achieve in the past is bringing Age of Empires successfully to the handheld devices we carry everywhere.
And this is exactly what they might be looking to redeem themselves of, as they have announced a new installment, called Age of Empires Mobile. The said game is now also available for pre-registration on both Android and iOS devices around the world.
The Upcoming Mobile Game Is All Set To Give Microsoft Its Much Awaited Redemption
The popular MMORTS game already available to play on major platforms such as PC, will have the same feel as the original game. While it has not been announced officially, the App Store front page for the coming game shows how it will be released on 19th August.
The announcement of the coming title also mentioned how the developing studio is looking forward to the game having a lot of similarities to the original game, including fast-paced combat and base-building options. It will also have an Online PvP and will allow players to create teams consisting of famous leaders introduced in all Age of Empires games.
The studio Microsoft is working with to make the game happen is none other than TiMi Studio Group, which is owned by Tencent. This is the same studio that has also worked on the Call of Duty Mobile video game title released back in 2019.
General Manager Of TiMi Studio Groups Talk About The Upcoming Age of Empires Mobile Adaptation
Many might remember by now how this is not the first time the tech giant has tried to adapt this video game franchise into a mobile game, as they once attempted the same back in 2015 with the release of Age of Empires: World Domination. Unfortunately, it was not able to yield the results as expected, causing it to be shut down less than a year later at the time.
Talking about delivering the game’s experience to mobiles, the studio revealed in a press statement–
“We grew up playing Age of Empires on our PCs and believe we can offer a new but similarly exciting experience for mobile players.”
The statement was made by Brayden Fan, a general manager for the studio. He essentially disclosed how the team responsible for the title’s development has experienced the game themselves, and how they strive to bring a similar feel for the mobile players too.
This would essentially be Microsoft’s third attempt at bringing the mentioned franchise mobile devices if we count the release of Age of Empires: Castle Siege. It came out in 2014 but was only made available to Windows 8.1 and the Windows Phone at the time of its release, and eventually shut down in 2019.
