In the vast universe of DC comics, Booster Gold is a superhero unlike any other. What sets him apart is not his futuristic technology or time-traveling antics, but rather his insatiable thirst for power and fame. After two brief live-action appearances in DC, the fan-favorite character will be making his way to the DCU under James Gunn.

Slated to have his own HBO Max series, fans have since been busy fan-casting several actors in the role. While Chris Pratt seems to be leading the race, James Gunn recently dismissed the rumors that the series is starting production soon.

A vain, self-centered, and fame-hungry character, Booster Gold is relatable and a human being despite his obvious flaws. Unlike other conventional superheroes, fans have come to love his unusual characteristics and nature.

Yet, the character has only been brought twice to live action, by Donald Faison in Legends of Tomorrow and Eric Martsolf inΒ Smallville, in very brief stints. And now, the character will finally be done justice as James Gunn is busy making an HBO series on the character.

A loser from the future, who uses his basic future technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.

This is how Gunn described the upcoming series to ComicBook.com. While no production date was announced back when the series was announced, a Production List update stated the series will begin filming in July. Moreover, scoopers @MyTimeToShineH and @DanielRPK revealed a few days back that the lead star has already been cast.

But DC helmer James Gunn, in the comments of his recent Instagram post debunked these rumors and stated,

Although we’re still working on Booster Gold, production isn’t imminent and that story/posting is completely false.

So while the supposed good news was just a farce, fans have been busy campaigning for Chris Pratt to be cast as the titular comic book character.

After Chris Pratt’s stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has apparently been put on hold for a while, the actor is free to make his way to other franchises. After his role as Star-Lord in the MCU, the actor has become a favorite fan-casting of several DC fans, who reckon the actor will be best for the role of Booster Gold.

Even in an interview with Rolling Stone, the Marvel star had remarked that if Gunn thought he was right for it, he was willing to consider the role. Now as the rumors about the lead star being already cast for the upcoming Booster Gold series make rounds on the internet, fans have been going wild over Pratt’s casting speculation.

With Chris Pratt recently having told ComicBook.com that he would be willing to join the DCU if given the opportunity, and James Gunn being adamant about working with his Guardians of the GalaxyΒ cast again (via Empire), there is a possibility that Pratt might play Booster Gold.

However, nothing has been confirmed and Gunn having recently debunked the rumors regarding the series’ production, it will be quite some time before we know who really will play Booster Gold.
