Joaquin Phoenix is back as the Joker in the soon-to-be-released, Joker: Folie à Deux. Reprising his Oscar-winning role, the actor seems as charming and as terrifying as ever in the first teaser trailer of the movie by Warner Bros. Accompanying him is the equally menacing Harley Quinn aka pop star Lady Gaga.
As the clips of the short trailer are going viral, one can visibly notice the lack of musical elements in the trailer despite it being described as a jukebox musical. Yet one surprising scene from the end of the teaser will make anyone convinced that the movie is a musical.
One Alarming Scene From Joker: Folie à Deux’s Teaser Goes Viral
Described as a jukebox musical, Joker: Folie à Deux is said to have at least 15 covers of popular songs or possibly other original songs (via Variety). Yet only one of them, What the World Needs Now is Love, is featured in the recently released teaser. One might infer from the trailer, that the Joaquin Phoenix-starrer movie hardly seems like a musical, due to its lack of musical elements.
Yet as the last scene from the short teaser plays out, there hardly seems any doubt that the movie is a musical indeed. Sitting in a non-contact room with a glass wall dividing Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga‘s Quinn draws a red smile with red lipstick on the glass and states,
“I want to see the real you.”
And without the camera angle shifting, Arthur Fleck moves and smiles, with his menacing smile being covered by the red lipstick smile, hinting that his real self is indeed the Clown Prince of Crime.
While it may look like a brilliant yet unimportant scene, what is musical about it is the notes of What the World Needs Now is Love playing in the background. The quiet musical notes possibly highlight Todd Phillips‘s comments stating Arthur has music in him (via THR). And as the scene went viral, fans had some of the most unexpected reactions.
Fans React to Joker: Folie à Deux’s Teaser’s Eerie Last Scene
Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker or Arthur Fleck is back in the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. While the movie does not appear to veer far from the first movie, music is an essential element of the sequel (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Although it might be a marketing strategy to not include as many musical elements in the movie’s teaser, one can be convinced to watch the movie from its’ short trailer’s last scene. As the scene went viral, this is how fans reacted:

With fans applauding the upcoming movie’s creativity, it is sufficient to say that fan expectations are sky-high. While the last movie went on to have several Oscar nominations, only time will tell whether Joker: Folie à Deux lives up to the hype and does justice to its first part.
