Kathryn Newton had her breakout in the CBS series Gary Unmarried. Ever since then, the actress has shown her acting talents in numerous movies and TV series, garnering quite a bit of praise and acclaim for her abilities. However, when the actress starred in her first Marvel role, as Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang in the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, she was the subject of intense hate.

From her acting to the way her character was written, fans and critics called her out for her ‘dry’ acting (see Daily Goat and Reddit). While certain fans still want her to be recasted and replaced in Marvel and others don’t really care about her character (via X), they are really excited by her latest movie, Lisa Frankenstein.

Written by Diablo Cody and directed by Zelda Williams, Lisa Frankenstein is kind of like a Tim Burton gothic feature but with its own new twist. More of an 80s teen romance drama, the film stars Kathryn Newton as Lisa, Cole Sprouse apparently as a (Zombie/ Live Corpse) as well as Liza Soberano.

Disheartened by her failed attempts at love, it features Lisa growing increasingly attached to a young man’s corpse, who later rises from the dead adding another twist to the already twisted tale. As the two embark on a journey to find happiness and love through Lisa’s humble yet crazy town, the film gets turned into a more full-blown horror and comedy feature.

Apparently inspired by Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, the movie promises a memorable experience filled with some of the most amazing performances and catchy gothic visuals. Newton’s Lisa Frankenstein will be in theatres on February 9, 2024.
