One of the most infamous cases in US homicide history was the case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a woman who was a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. She pleaded guilty to the murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, who she said was the reason she had such a traumatic past, and why she had to do what she did.
After almost eight years of serving her sentence, she has been finally released from prison and has instantly gained internet fame. Along with the biography she has written which was also released alongside her, she’s now hoping that her story will be adapted into a major motion picture or a big-budget docuseries, and she wants actress Millie Bobby Brown to play her in it.
What Is The Story Of Gypsy Rose Blanchard?
The story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard is one of endless suffering, leading to the eventual murder she committed, allegedly to save herself from her mother Dee Dee Blanchard’s torture. It all started on the day she was born when her mother started to notice that her daughter possessed a very weak constitute compared to any other newborn child, which led her down a dark path.

Dee Dee Blanchard reported to the doctors after three months that her daughter didn’t seem to be breathing properly, which when examined, gave almost contradicting results, but she was adamant. As time passed, she started reporting various other symptoms that little Rose Blanchard was facing, with little to no medical evidence supporting her claims.
This was a serious case of Munchausen Syndrome that Blanchard’s mother was suffering from, in which a patient psychologically believes that they or someone else is suffering from either one or many dangerous diseases at the same time, almost manifesting them in reality. Thus as a child, Gypsy Rose was subjected to treatments and remedies that she didn’t need, and which later destroyed her body, like the disintegration of her teeth and many other problems.
Once she was 22 years old in 2013, she went on to a site called Christiandatingforfree.com and soon met a man called Nicholas Godejohn, who later became her boyfriend. But Rose’s mother was against her daughter mingling with someone else. Thus in 2015, to save herself and be with Godejohn, she devised a plan to kill her mother with him and succeeded in doing so the same year.
in 2016, Rose Blanchard took a plea deal that served her a ten-year sentence for second-degree murder, but on December 28th, 2023, she was released after serving 85% of her sentence. Today, she’s a well-known internet personality, only becoming more popular with the Hulu miniseries The Act, which highlights her haunting life with her mother.
