Over the last few years, both the anime and manga series of Jujutsu Kaisen have really taken the world by storm. Fans all around the world have been absolutely amazed by the fight sequences, the complex character design, and the phenomenal world-building that Jujutsu Kaisen offers.
However, one thing that seems to constantly confuse a lot of Jujutsu Kaisen fans is the way the power scaling works in the story.
Jujutsu Kaisen introduces this really unique system of cursed energy, domains, and sorcery that adds a lot of depth and complexity to the battles between the Jujutsu sorcerers and the cursed energies they fight.
But even with all those details, a majority of fans find themselves scratching their heads in an attempt to fully understand how the power scaling in Jujutsu Kaisen works.
Why Power Scaling In Jujutsu Kaisen Is A Nightmare
In Jujutsu Kaisen, cursed energy is the foundation of the power scaling. However, it looks like even the manga readers don’t fully understand this supernatural force that characters like Gojo and Yuji depend on to enhance their fighting abilities.
So according to JJK official translations by John Werry:
> Gojo can’t use black flash
> Gojo can use Curse Spirit Manipulation
> Malevolent Shrine can use adaptationPray for the poor souls only reading officials they must be so confused 😭 #JJK256 pic.twitter.com/bDsDNgvxmz

No wonder people don’t understand the series man

Some of those mistakes are so weird, like, are you as a translator not even reading the series you're translating??? Werry Kaisen is something else sometimes.

I assure you he doesn’t care about JJK in the slightest or even about doing his job properly. He’s done this for several manga for so many years now, he knows VIZ will never fire him pic.twitter.com/a2pTUXxkTv

Don´t forget that thanks to him people believe Sukuna is a Curse Spirit, like Jogo and Hanami 💀

Reading TCB alongside the officials is pretty much a necessity at this point😭

My goat GOJO was holding back all along. He didn't use CSM.

Things like Domain Expansion, Cursed Techniques, and Cursed Spirits are all powered by cursed energy, but the way each of them manipulates this energy is so diverse that instead of clarifying how cursed energy works, it only ends up making it even more complicated to grasp.
One of the biggest reasons behind the confusing power scaling in Jujutsu Kaisen is the translation errors in the official English version of the manga.
The official English translator for the series, John Werry, has made absurd mistakes, such as incorrectly stating that Gojo can use “Curse Spirit Manipulation.”
Translation errors like this have led some fans to mistakenly believe that Sukuna is actually a cursed spirit when that is completely wrong as he is a former human sorcerer, now an incarnated cursed object.
How Gege Akutami’s Writing Is Ruining Jujutsu Kaisen
The creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, is often considered one of the most genius manga artists in the industry. This claim is highlighted by the fact that Akutami somehow manages to get the readers emotionally attached to certain characters, regardless of giving these characters a very small amount of screen time.
However, there are also those fans who believe that Akutami’s writing style is ruining the overall story, and they have a lot of valid reasons for this statement.
First and foremost, Gojo’s death was one of the most ridiculously executed sendoffs for one of the major characters in the entire series. This left many readers unsatisfied and questioning the narrative choices.
In addition to this, many characters like Mai Zen’in and Momo have been vastly underdeveloped, regardless of having significant roles to play in the story.
After the Shibuya arc, both the overall plot and the fight sequences have started to feel kind of too repetitive and predictive for some fans of the series.
