Expendables 4 or Expend4bles was the final nail in the coffin for the renowned Sylvester Stallone action franchise that made a name for bringing some iconic stars together on screen. The fourth and latest film in the franchise was a critical and commercial disaster. Adding more to its list of injuries, the film also gave Sylvester Stallone a Razzie for the Worst Supporting Actor.

With his latest Razzie for Expendables 4, Sylvester Stallone has made a record for most Razzie wins by an actor and an action icon. Even after being one of the greatest names in action and Hollywood, Stallone has been a recipient of a record 11 dishonoring Razzies in total. It does not look like any other action star would be able to break the record soon.

How did Expendables 4 lead Sylvester Stallone to his Razzie record?

Recently, the world witnessed the Greatest Night of Hollywood in the form of the 96th Academy Awards. While the Oscars are famous for honoring the best of cinema, the Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies have been infamous for dishonoring the worst. Several renowned celebrities like Ben Affleck, Eddie Murphy, and Jared Leto have won it, but nobody is even near Sylvester Stallone’s record.

While most of the Razzies this year were taken by the bizarre Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the Jason Statham film also won two awards. The new addition to the franchise, Megan Fox, won a Razzie for the Worst Supporting Actress and Stallone for the Worst Supporting Actor.

Previously, Sylvester Stallone won 10 Razzies for his performances. Before Expendables 4, Stallone has won Razzies for his roles in RhinestoneFirst Blood Part IIRocky IVRambo III, and Spy Kids 3: Game Over. The addition of Expend4bles assures that he is likely to retain the top place for a long time now. Initially, it was reported that the Cobra actor would not even be a part of the fourth part. Although later he returned, things did not go as planned.

What led Expend4bles to be such a debacle?

Sylvester Stallone has made a name for creating several renowned action franchises like Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables. However, The Expendables could not continue its journey very smoothly and presented a steady decline in quality with every film. The first two installments were praised, but the third part could not flaunt such success. Despite that, the franchise continued to make a 4th film.

The central attraction of the franchise was the coming together of veteran and new action stars on screen. We have seen some of the greatest names in the first three films. But the same could not be said for the fourth installment, which featured new additions to the cast like 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, and Andy García.

It was earlier reported in 2017 that Stallone would not be a part of the fourth part due to creative differences. Soon in 2018, the actor claimed that his fellow co-stars supported him to return, and he came back to the franchise for one last time. But little did the fans know that the fourth film would be a complete mess. Starting from the extremely minimal screentime of Stallone to poor CGI and weak screenplay, Expend4bles scored the worst numbers in the franchise.

Expend4bles can be rented on Apple TV+.
