The rumor mill is swirling again, and this time it’s regarding the potentially game-changing scenario that Xbox may be making their first-party games third-party. What does this mean? Well, games like Starfield, Redfall and more will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, as well as plenty of other unreleased games. With that in mind, the biggest question on everyone’s minds is simple… will this include Marvel’s Blade?
Xbox or Marvel have not spoken about these rumors
With the recent rumors and leaks about the possibility that several Bethesda games will be coming to the PS5 or Nintendo Switch, players are speculating about the possibilities of other exclusivities coming to other platforms. Games that have not been released yet are in the conversation, like the Indiana Jones game from Machine Games, the creators of Wolfenstein. Another title that has come up is the recently confirmed Marvel’s Blade game from Arkane Studios. Bethesda or the studios have not confirmed or denied these possibilities.
After the incredible and horrendous disaster that Redfall meant for Bethesda and Arkane, that game had no reception at all and was a very exciting project for Bethesda and Arkane. The same studio is now developing this Blade game. Redfall had vampires and a first-person camera; these assets can be used with the Blade game as well. This Marvel title was confirmed back in The Game Awards of last year. It will be much easier to adapt a game that just started production to a new platform than a game that has already been released.
Neither Arkane, Xbox, nor Bethesda have confirmed or denied this possibility, so players start to create their own stories, like Halo, Forza, and games like Gears of War coming to the PS5. Xbox has poor console sales, and Game Pass is not as profitable as Microsoft expected. Is it not so crazy to think that Xbox needs to sell its games and Game Pass ecosystem in more places, so the brand can make better numbers? After the Xbox One launch fiasco, the Xbox brand has never fully recovered.
Is it the only way?
Microsoft’s Sarah Bond and Phil Spencer have not said anything about these rumors. But every minute that passes, this decision makes more sense. After an avalanche of company acquisitions and many of these new exclusive games being launched, Xbox still has not had the numbers that they were expecting. Especially compared to Nintendo or PlayStation with their exclusive IPs. This move will change the console war forever and will leave the Xbox console not be really needed.
