The Phoenix Force is an antagonist that has seen two cinematic outings so far but has failed to live up to the expectations that fans have had of it. Jean Grey has seen two iterations of herself succumb to the power of the Phoenix Force, but it has failed to develop into an actual antagonist force that fans can get behind. However, under Kevin Feige’s control, the power might be able to unleash its true potential.

The Phoenix Force is one of the strongest entities in the multiverse. It is the manifestation of all life and passion, the ‘spark’ that embued the universe with life. Jean Grey has played host to this force multiple times. It has also been weaponized by the likes of the Shiar Empire, who have successfully used the weapon to cause havoc across the cosmos.

Introducing the Phoenix Force would not only give the Avengers a way to deal with Wanda and her variants, but it would also set up a ticking bomb, given that audiences are trained to believe what the Phoenix Force eventually does to those who host it. Not only will this bring back some much-needed dramatic gravitas to the MCU, but it will also unify the narrative and bring together key aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe back into focus.

The Phoenix Force needs to be done right with the X-Men

There could be multiple X-Men teams dead, just like the Avengers
X-Men could unite with the Avengers to take down The Phoenix Force

Jean Grey famously hosted the Phoenix Force and became the means of planetary destruction until the X-Men stopped it. In the original trilogy, Jean was slain by Hugh Jackmna’s Wolverine, hence ridding the world of the Phoenix Force. However, after the events of Days of Future Past, a new Jean became the host to another iteration of the Phoenix Force.

However, neither X-Men: The Last Stand nor X-Men: Dark Phoenix did the character justice, as both were plagued with their own issues. Introducing The Phoenix Force as the introductory arc of the X-Men will not only give the MCU a united vision, but it could also unite the X-Men with the Avengers. The Marvel brand, ever since Disney acquired Fox, has been looking to build up its X-Men after the IP, has been out of their hands for quite some time. Games and film entries have been announced for Mutants, hinting at the company’s vision to refocus their superhero IPs.
