There have been many worries that Xbox could be leaving the console game after its recent announcements in terms of bringing its exclusives onto PlayStation, but luckily, due to a recent tease from Jez Corden of the Xbox Two Podcast, this could all be nothing to worry about.
According to Jez Corden, there is an Xbox handheld device that is currently designated as a prototype and could become one of the next console releases for Xbox. So far, there isn’t a lot of information teased about this handheld prototype, but it does seem to have one feature that the PlayStation Portal doesn’t.
An Xbox Handheld Could Be on the Way, and It Seems to Be an Upgrade to the Playstation Portal
When it comes to handheld devices, many developers have struggled to create a device that meets the demands of the public. So far, one of the only handheld devices that has managed to meet gamers standards is the Nintendo Switch, but this could change if this new Xbox handheld prototype manages to achieve what many companies can’t.
At the moment, we do not know a lot about the potential upcoming handheld from Xbox, but one comment that stood out during the Xbox Two Podcast was the comment “no, not a cloud handheld, a fully native Xbox handheld.” which is something not many handheld devices have as a feature.
This is a major deal within the gaming community, as usually Xbox has focused on the cloud gaming side of the industry, but as a change of pace, it has focused on allowing players the option to purchase and own their games rather than following the PlayStation Portal path, which uses cloud gaming.
A Native Handheld Console Is Considerably Preferred Over a Cloud Gaming Handheld
There has always been a major debate within the gaming community as to which system is better for the entire community. Understandably, one of the main aims of the gaming community is to ensure that games are widely available to the entire community without the fear of losing everything to one simple mistake.
Sadly, the PlayStation Portal only managed to please half the community as it only used cloud-based gaming, leaving many players to wonder whether or not they owned the games they were playing. Luckily, Xbox has taken note and is allowing players to own their games, whether physical or digital.
Currently, we do not know whether or not this Xbox handheld device will actually release, as it is still a prototype and could eventually be canceled if it doesn’t meet the criteria for release, but if it does, it sounds like it could be a game changer in the handheld industry.
What do you think about Xbox releasing a handheld device? Do you think this will end badly, or will it succeed just like the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments what you think!
