Xbox has always taken the lead for convenient gaming but it seems like Sony is trying to keep up if recent rumors are to be believed. The company has been making great and steady progress to jump over to PC by porting first-party games and it is far from over.

The days of buying a physical edition of a game and sticking it into a console are long over. The gaming community hasn’t fully transitioned to this phase yet but is slowly getting used to it and major corporations are ready to make one massive push that will set the standard for the future of gaming.

Xbox Game Pass May Have Found a Worthy Competitor From Sony

Sony is about to take the PlayStation brand to a different level that could rival Xbox Game Pass.

PlayStation has always been one of the stronger platforms in gaming. The former head of the brand believed that it is time to set aside petty squabbles and hopes to see all companies unite and develop one powerful console that could run all games including Xbox.

However, it seems like Sony has set its sights on something more ambitious that involves cloud streaming and a dedicated launcher on PC. It was only a matter of time before Sony got serious with its interest in the PC platform.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut was the most recent first-party title to be ported and some new features came along with it like an overlay system that would easily allow players to sync with the PSN and access their friend lists.

Phil Spencer initially had a vision for the future of gaming where the gaming community can conveniently play games anywhere. The technology has advanced immensely which has been integrated into smart televisions with streaming capabilities and could be installed with a launcher that will give players access to these subscription services.

The Official PC Launcher of PlayStation Could Be Coming Sooner Rather Than Later

There will come a time when Sony will catch up with Xbox on the subscription-based structure.

The beauty of modern technology is the convenience and it is inevitable for Sony to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft, especially after seeing the promising results. However, some are not too keen or optimistic about this new phase and question the feasibility of adopting a similar structure.

PlayStation Plus is a subscription service, not in the same way how Microsoft has been marketing and using its subscription service at least. Subscribers receive perks like online multiplayer and a few free games for those on the higher tiers.

Adding this to Smart TVs with dedicated launchers will pull the people away from their consoles. Perhaps Sony is ready to deviate from tradition and go bold with modern technology.

Microsoft has been reaping the benefits of cloud gaming and streaming in recent years and with the growing interest in the PC, it will only be a matter of time before Sony makes a move that will affect the status quo.

Consoles are left behind if players can easily access their games through a launcher. The PlayStation Network fiasco with Steam has raised some eyebrows which gave away Sony’s master plan.
