Juliette Lewis Shared Her Star-Struck Moment With Bob Dylan

Juliette Lewis recalled her memorable encounter with Bob Dylan in New York. The actress told People:

I met him in a tiny New York elevator. My brain had to tell me to act normal. I got out and into my van for work and told the driver I met him and then involuntarily started sobbing.”

She further explained this during her appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. The Natural Born Killers star said:

The story is even better. I’m in New York City, I’m working. I walk into an elevator that’s the size of a shoebox, only three people can fit in there. And I look up: It’s Bob Dylan. And your heart goes [makes exploding noise], and all these things happen.”

She noted how the musician recognized her from an early project she did with Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese:

And then he says, ‘You know Bob, huh?’ Bob De Niro. ‘You were in that movie,’ he says to me. And I’m like, ‘And you’re Bob Dylan.’ And then my little brain was like, ‘Say hi, how are you?’ ’cause I was gonna faint.”

The actress revealed she listened to one of Dylan’s songs on loop during one of the toughest times in her life. Lewis added:

I listened to this song for months on end called ‘She Belongs to Me’ through one of the hardest times of my entire life when I was 22. And so his lyrics were biblical to me. They really helped me a lot.”

Indeed, Lewis got in the van, and she told the driver she just met Bob Dylan and started sobbing. She also claimed she had enough sense not to run to the musician and cry her heart out.

In his interview with Independent, Bob Dylan discussed the power of lyrics in music. In Shadows in the Night, he puts his own spin to America’s best-loved songs. He also talked about what it means to him:

I wanted to use songs that everybody knows or thinks they know. I wanted to show them a different side of it and open up that world in a more unique way. You have to believe what the words are saying, and the words are as important as the melody. Unless you believe the song and have lived it, there’s little sense in performing it.”

Indeed, Dylan has a way with songs that speak to the heart. The relatability of his pieces, paired with melodious tunes, is what makes his music really special and remarkable.
