Both of them have repeatedly spoken about their adoration towards each other and the things that they bond over. While their young ages concerned many fans, the to-be-wed couple seemed to be happy.
The Stranger Things star recently revealed the epic proposal story of the couple on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Bobby Brown mentioned that she and Bongiovi bonded over their shared love for diving, and the proposal was actually done underwater. She also mentioned that a mishap occurred when Bongiovi swam to the rescue.
Millie Bobby Brown Talks About Her Underwater Proposal With Jake Bongiovi
Damsel star Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi have been dating for the past three years. According to Wired, the couple met through Instagram and then began dating in 2021 after being friends. She said to the Sunday Times how she felt that she could spend the rest of her life with him the moment she met him and even recalled telling about him to her mother. She said,
“I ran to my mum and said, ‘I really, really like him!’ After we met we knew we never wanted to leave each other’s side… I think so much of life is overthinking. The one thing that made clear sense to me was him. So I didn’t really have to do much thinking.”
After two years of dating, the couple announced that they got engaged in April 2023 on Instagram. Bobby Brown shared a black and white photo of the couple along with a Taylor Swift lyric from the song Lover. Recently, while promoting her Netflix film Damsel, Millie Bobby Brown opened up about the circumstances of her proposal.
Bobby Brown mentioned on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she and Jake Bongiovi shared a love for diving and that they had gotten their diving licenses together. She mentioned that on the day of the proposal, Bongiovi woke her up at 8 AM and told her to get ready for a dive at a spot they had visited before. She said,
“I was like, ‘8 a.m., dive?’ … And he’s telling me, ‘We’re going to the same spot we usually go to.’ I’m like, ‘It’s boring, let’s go somewhere new.’ He’s like, ‘No, we have to go to this spot.’…He gives me a shell and I turn it over and it’s a ring.”
Millie Bobby Brown then mentioned that the ring was beautiful and that she could not say a resounding ‘yes’ as they were underwater. So they communicated through hand signs that were the staple of communication while diving.
Jake Bongiovi Risked His Life To Save Millie Bobby Brown’s Engagement Ring
While Millie Bobby Brown gave a proper’ yes’ to Jake Bongiovi’s proposal once they came up from the water, the actress revealed that an incident occurred while underwater that scared all of them at once. She mentioned that Bongiovi had gotten her a new ring as her mother had refused to give her own for the underwater proposal.
Millie Bobby Brown spoke about the incident, which proved why her mother was hesitant to give her ring for the proposal as while Bongiovi put the ring underwater, it reportedly fell. But, the actor reportedly swooped in as it fell deeper and retrieved it. She said to Jimmy Fallon,
“As I go to show him, the ring falls off my finger, [and] plummets so fast, it was like a cinematic movie. Jake threw himself, like so deep, like the diver was like, ‘You can’t do that, like your ears … literally your brain will explode.’”
Millie Bobby Brown mentioned how after the proposal she and Jake Bongiovi went looking disheveled to the beach to meet their parents to announce their engagement. She mentioned how his act proved why their relationship worked so well. She said,
“It’s a reflection of who he is and I feel like we’re always going to have each other’s back and if anyone drops the ball, we got it.”
While the couple have been engaged for almost a year, they are yet to tie the knot. Millie Bobby Brown is expected to be filming the fifth and final season of Stranger Things while Jake Bongiovi is awaiting the release of his acting debut Sweethearts.
