The show opened with a mixed response from critics, but it was reported that the show had become one of the most-watched television series in 2018, just behind AMC’s The Walking Dead. The series is in its fifth season, which has been split into two installments, with the second installment scheduled to premiere in November 2024. Kevin Costner’s performance as John Dutton has been highly lauded in the series, and the actor talked about voicing a very unexpected character.

Costner appeared on Good Morning America in 2019, where he explained about the gruff voice he has used to portray the character on screen. The actor voiced the character of Enzo, the dog in The Art of Racing in the Rain, who also narrates the story. The actor was asked if he had to be convinced to do the movie, and he right away said yes to the role, to which he replied,

“I had to think about it because I didn’t like my voice, and I thought you needed to get someone else to play Zoey, either we get an Italian to play Enzo”

Costner mentioned further in the interview

“That’s why you’re trying to invent voices all the time because you don’t like your own.”

According to reports by Looper, it is possible that the filming for Yellowstone and The Art of Racing in the Rain happened at the same time since the projects are just a year apart. It was also noted that there is a probability of the projects being developed at the same time, which is why John Dutton’s voice sounds similar to that of Enzo. However, the audience and the critics who patiently waited for the second installment to finally premiere have appreciated the actor’s work.

And now at the Warner Bros. CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the actor who has directed and produced his passion project, i.e., Horizon: An American Saga spoke about his exit from the show with ET. He said,

“I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to. I thought I was going to make seven seasons, but right now we’re at five. So how it works out—I hope it does—but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with it, I’d love to do it.”

He was asked his opinion on how he feels John Dutton’s story is going to wrap up, to which he explained that he needs to be proactive in what happens. He added that he has had his thoughts on how it should end, but at the end of the day, it’s the creator’s choice.
