For a long time now, the debate surrounding the Marvel Televisions project, Agents of SHIELD has occupied the fans’ collective minds with questions about its non-canonical status. But a murmur of hope has recently breezed through the fandom when Chloe Bennet, the face of AoS, made a wary comment by trolling an internet troll and inadvertently hinting at her potential appearance in the mainstream MCU in the near future.

But how much of this inadvertent admission is based on fact? And does Bennet’s backhanded reply even qualify as a reliable source for Kevin Feige’s grand plans for the future of Marvel Studios? As streams of questions continue to haunt and plague the fans, a decisive need to check the probability of Marvel actually introducing Quake to the MCU arises before any shred of unwarranted optimism can take root in the fandom’s heart.

Chloe Bennet Hinting at a Potential Mainstream MCU Cameo?

For those unaware of The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Tara Bennett, the book is an elaborate explanation of how AoS neither belongs to nor occurs within the mainstream MCU. That would consequently mean that the entirety of Agents of SHIELD is constituted like a convoluted episode of What If…? that ran a little too long. What if… Phil Coulson wasn’t killed by Loki and he continued his mission of saving the world with a subset of superheroes shielded from the eyes of the Avengers? For the lovers of Marvel and everything it encompasses, this is a bitter pill for the fandom to swallow.

However, when Chloe Bennet said – “your tweets aren’t going to age well” – effectively shutting down trolls and comments initiated by Murphy’s Multiverse claiming how she’s “just not the same caliber of actress” as those like Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, and Samuel L. Jackson, it gave rise to hopes that she might be defending her potential role as the mainstream MCU’s Quake. Much like Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones have rejoined the cinematic universe (the latter yet to do so), Marvel could set Chloe Bennet up for appearing in the upcoming Multiverse Saga without referencing her past in Agents of SHIELD.

At the same time, her admission into the MCU could spell trouble for Inhumans and the dead or alive status of Phil Coulson, avoiding which could mean a major loophole and audience outcry against Marvel Studios. The return and resurrection of dead characters in the narrative take away the importance and gravity of the sacrifice and if Quake has to be introduced, MCU would probably opt for a recast or place Chloe Bennet’s character as a multiversal visitor.

How Does Chloe Bennet’s Quake Fit Into the MCU Narrative?

In the comics, Quake has been intricately linked with SHIELD and harbored a durable, entrusting, and close mentor-student bond with director Nick Fury. Rising quickly through the ranks as one of his most trusted operatives, the Inhuman had for a short while functioned as the director of the organization herself. Her abilities and qualification often allowed her to single-handedly execute covert missions with precision across the globe and later, under Fury’s directive, Quake operated as a member of Secret Warriors – an organization of skilled covert operatives created to defend the planet against threats both domestic and from beyond, including the Skrull invasion.

It would then make complete and utter sense for Chloe Bennet to make an easy segue into the mainstream Marvel continuity. Given her ability to work as a deep shadow operative, her role under Fury’s direct command, and her involvement with the war against Skrull invasion – it places the actor in a position to join the MCU in its upcoming project, Secret Invasion, as the Inhuman superhero, Quake.

It further helps the plot to invoke her current status in an intergalactic mission in space, which if properly framed, could be redirected as a mission authorized by Fury himself to investigate the potential issues with the Skrulls. Much like Banner’s foreboding warning to the Avengers about Thanos’s arrival, Quake could serve as the primary line of defense against the oncoming attack.
