Sharing his candid thoughts on this year’s Emmy race, the anonymous voter expressed his doubts surrounding one drama series in particular.

While fans and audiences showered their love and appreciation on Pedro Pascal‘s The Last of Us, the anonymous Emmy voter admitted having doubts about the show. While discussing which drama show he voted for, the insider noted how he discussed with writer and producer Craig Mazin, and he immediately began doubting Mazin’s 2023 project The Last of Us.
“I had lunch with Craig [Mazin] and asked what he was doing next. He goes, ‘HBO gave me this video game.’ I went, ‘You’re going from Chernobyl to a video game?!’ He goes, ‘Yeah. Even worse, it’s about zombies.’ I was like, ‘What are you doing?!’”

Discussing how he felt unhappy to see Craig Mazin getting engaged in a video game show after delivering the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl (2019), the Emmy voter confessed harboring doubts about the show. But eventually, he admitted that Mazin promised to surprise him, and certainly he did.

In the section of best drama series, the anonymous voter sided with the HBO show Succession. In the category of comedy series, his vote went to the FX show The Bear. Under limited or anthology series, the Emmy voter sided with the Amazon Prime show Daisy Jones & the Six. As for television movies, the vote went to Roku channel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Under talk show CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert got the vote. For the scripted variety series, the Emmy voter chose Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. For variety live special the vote went to Netflix’s Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. Finally, for variety pre-recorded specials, the vote went to NBC’s Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.

Although THR reported the anonymous Emmy voter’s choices, USA Today shared a rather optimistic list of winner predictions. Claiming that Succession will positively win under the best drama series, the outlet shared the list of winning shows and actors they are absolutely sure about. Following Succession, the list involved Ted Lasso and Beef as winning shows. Followed by winning actors like Sarah Snook, Jeremy Strong, Quinta Brunson, and Jason Sudeikis.
