The Forbidden Grip of the Ages is an Epic axe pommels, which implies that it can’t be acquired till very late in the story. The Forbidden Grip of the Ages can be found in a hidden Realm Tear near the Lake of Nine. For players with the special edition physical copy of the PS4 release of God of War, they’ll have a cloth map with runes on it describing how to get to the “secret treasure.” However, players won’t actually need to decipher the message. Players should head towards the top of the Muspelheim realm tower, which is south of Tyr’s Temple.

God of War players already know that realm towers have a Traveller, and players must defeat it before doing anything else in the area. Players will be required to stand at the center of the massive ring on the floor below and face Tyr’s Temple. After this, the steps are described in the comments section of a Reddit post regarding this hidden Easter egg in the game in the official subreddit of God of War.

Players must keep four things in mind. The first one is Tyr’s Temple, which is right in front of them, with the two massive braziers to their left and the large ring on the ground beneath them.

From the initial position, players can follow this pattern. Look Straight, Left, Straight, Right, Left, Straight, Down, Right, Left, and then Straight. There are no time constraints on this procedure, and players are free to start again if they mess up mid-way by leaving and then returning to the area using the nearby door. Players will know if they’re doing the procedure correctly because a gong will sound when players look back at the temple for the third time and again when the pattern has been completely finished. A Realm Tear will appear in front of the players, and they will be able to pull out the Forbidden Grip of the Ages.
