Yu Yu Hakusho is adapted from the 90s manga series of the same name written by Yoshihiro Togashi. It has generated a large fanbase with an equally appreciated anime adaptation running for 112 episodes. Although the Netflix adaptation has been faithful to the source material, the show has taken some creative liberties that raise certain doubts among the fans regarding its future.

Before One Piece, the scenarios of anime adaptations by Netflix were horrific at their best. We have gotten some of the most abysmal adaptations in the form of Fullmetal Alchemist, Devilman, and Death Note. Their live-action show failed to live up to the level of their source materials. However, One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho have seemingly changed the scenario for good.

Although it can’t be said that the adaptation of the Yoshihiro Togashi creation was precisely like what we saw in the manga and the anime, it was accurate in maintaining the essence. The Netflix series has covered 66 out of 112 episodes from the anime. While the 5 hour-long episodes have comprised plenty of two significant sagas, the show has also deviated in its final episodes.

Despite a substantial amount of episodes left to be adapted by Netflix, the first season has also somewhat provided us with a concrete ending. Yu Yu Hakusho made some vital changes in the show that have kept the option open for the makers to maintain the adaptation as a standalone limited series as well.

Is there enough material left for the show to get another season?

Yu Yu Hakusho focuses on a young boy named Yusuke Urameshi, who met his end following a tragic accident while saving a small child. However, fate plays differently as he is revived as an “Underworld Detective” who investigates various supernatural cases in the Human World. Consisting of 19 volumes, the manga was widely praised and won many awards.

The first season of the Takumi Kitamura show has covered the first two seasons of the anime. Even though it is hoped that the show will return for the Three Kings Saga, the death of certain major characters in the first season of the show has raised some doubts regarding it. There are contrasting reports on the Internet regarding the second season, where some fans have also praised the conclusion of Season 1 as a good ending.

As per the reviews, the show has been cleverly weaved with appropriate cuts and changes being incorporated. According to Comicbook, the show also made it to the US Top 10 list of TV series on its debut. Despite having some criticisms, the reviews have been mostly positive and made it one of the rarest entries of impressive adaptations.

Yu Yu Hakusho can be streamed on Netflix.
