Popularly known for portraying Pennywise in the horror film franchise It, Bill Skarsgård is set to star in the remake of the 1994 supernatural superhero film The Crow. Directed by Alex Proyas, the original film featured Brandon Lee in the lead role of Eric Draven. Following its success several other actors have since portrayed different versions of The Crow in subsequent sequels. Skarsgård, however, would be bringing Lee’s character Eric Draven back in the remake.
And one of the cast members of the original film, Rochelle Davis, has shared her reaction to the first look at the upcoming film, as she criticized the remake while expressing her concern about Bill Skarsgård’s take on the late actor’s iconic role.
The Crow Star Criticizes Bill Skarsgård’s Remake
Based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name, The Crow featured Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a musician resurrected from the dead to seek revenge against the gang responsible for his and his fiancée’s murder. The film received positive reviews along with notable success at the box office.
Starring alongside Lee, Rochelle Davis portrayed the role of Sarah Mohr, a young girl whom Eric and his fiance cared for. And the actress has voiced her disapproval of the upcoming remake, which features Bill Skarsgård in the lead role.
Expressing her dissatisfaction with Skarsgård’s portrayal, Davis remarked that his appearance in the film bears little resemblance to the true essence of the character. Reacting to the revamped look of the character, she said, “Yuck,” as per TMZ. She also clarified that her criticism is not directed at the actor but rather at the makers’ vision for the character.
Describing the interpretation as “dingy, dirty, grungy,” Davis argued that the remake’s depiction places the character on par with the film’s antagonists, contrary to his original portrayal, where he is drawn as a good man with a good soul. She also suggested that the makers should have cast an actor who more closely resembles the late actor.
Rochelle Davis Would Not be Watching The Crow Remake
Along with criticizing the remake, Rochelle Davis has also stated that she would not be watching the film out of respect for the late actor Brandon Lee, who tragically passed away during the original movie’s production. She also expressed disappointment in Hollywood’s decision to remake Lee’s final film and urged for consideration of his legacy.
However, the actress has praised the filmmakers for keeping the cast of the remake diverse by casting FKA Twigs in the role of Eric’s fiancée, Shelly Webster. Although Davis expressed delight that the remake would be introducing a new generation to the story, she would continue to urge the fans of the original film to not support the remake.
