Director Zack Snyder, known for his work on superhero films like Man of Steel and Justice League, had to pick one movie over another on a TikTok movie bracket game. He was asked to choose between one Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer movie, which won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2015, and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Ragnarok.
Thor Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi and released in 2017, was a critical and commercial success for Marvel Studios. It became one of the most popular films in the cinematic Thor franchise and earned over $850 million at the worldwide box office.
Zack Snyder Picks Between Thor Ragnarok and One Oscar-Winning Movie
In response to a TikTok movie bucket challenge (Via Discussing Film) thrown at him to pick between two movies, Zack Snyder was asked to pick from two popular movies. One was Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor Ragnarok, while the other was Benedict Cumberbatch-starrer The Imitation Game.
And, Snyder, without much delay, chose The Imitation Game, directed by Morten Tyldum, which is a biographical drama that chronicles the life of Alan Turing, a brilliant mathematician and code breaker.
Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Turing with nuance and depth, bringing to life the complexities of a man whose genius was instrumental in breaking the German Enigma code during World War II.
Snyder, known for his emotionally charged storytelling, may appreciate the delicate balance between intellect and emotion that The Imitation Game achieves.
Thor Ragnarok Was More Successful at the Box Office Than Justice League
Released in November 2017, Thor: Ragnarok proved to be a thunderous success for Marvel Studios. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film not only earned critical acclaim for its humor, vibrant visuals, and fresh take on the Thor character but also dominated the global box office. With a worldwide gross of over $850 million, Thor: Ragnarok became one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
Despite having a larger ensemble cast and featuring iconic DC characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, Justice League earned less than its hype at the box office. Released just a few weeks after Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League only managed to gross over $650 million worldwide.
While both Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League are superhero films with their unique strengths and weaknesses, Thor: Ragnarok emerged as the clear victor in the box office battle.
Stream Thor Ragnarok on Disney Plus and Justice League is available to watch on Prime Video.
