In the war of streaming services, every major platform wants to create something exceptional that will keep the engagement of the audience with their services. On the Paramount Pictures side of things, Special Ops: Lioness featuring Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Olivera has become the flagship series along with a select few that have made the public tune into Paramount+.
Along with a star cast, the project is also helmed by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, who has surpassed expectations with a change in the genre with this series, making it one of the most successful in terms of viewership. But despite all of these positives, Saldaña is still unsure whether the show will be renewed for a second season.
Zoe Saldaña Expresses Doubt Regarding The Renewal Of Special Ops: Lioness For A Second Season
While screenwriter and director Taylor Sheridan may be one of the few prolific individuals delving into the Western genre in modern times, he is not shy of trying to create other projects with different themes. This was proven right when Zoe Saldaña and Laysla De Olivera created headlines with their performances in the director’s most recent spy thriller series Special Ops: Lioness.

In fact, this show was so exceptionally well done that it was able to surpass Sheridan’s success that he received with Yellowstone, which is considered his masterpiece by most in terms of sheer viewership. And still, it seems like this wasn’t enough to reprise the show for a second season, only made more evident by the fact that Saldaña doesn’t believe it is going to happen.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, the Guardians of the Galaxy star revealed that she’s doubtful of her show receiving a second season due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that were concluded not long ago. She said:
“I’ve heard things here and there. I certainly hope so. We were nervous, especially Nicole [Kidman] and I. We had hope. We were so hopeful that this was gonna find its community. But it’s driven by women, where women are at the helm. And they’re wearing hats that men normally wear. And then when we started our promotion, our press tour for it, we were struck with a strike.”
The silver lining about this situation is that nothing is set in stone, which means there’s still a chance that the second season will be announced in the coming weeks or months.

What Is Special Ops: Lioness About?
With Sheridan taking a different route from his familiar neo-Western take on Yellowstone, people had low expectations from this spy thriller, which was proven to be wrong with the show’s release.

The series is loosely based on the declassified files from the CIA, outlining the creation of an all-female special and covert operations team dubbed ‘Team Lioness’ that would help the soldiers in Iraq for patrols and reconnaissance in 2003. Since terrorist organizations used female insurgents in the warzone back in the day, male soldiers had a tough time checking them because they were females and Muslims.
