Pop star Kesha confessed the saddest moment of her life was meeting her idol, Jerry Seinfeld, who completely refused to hug her. The singer was devastated about this encounter because, according to her, Seinfeld brings her comfort and joy.
The actor-comedian, however, defended his action and stood firm by his principle that he would never hug a stranger. He also said that humans have to meet others and start from somewhere before engaging in intimate gestures.
Kesha Divulges Whole Story About Her Encounter With Jerry Seinfeld
Kesha revealed the details during her interview with The Best Show with Tom Scharpling. According to the singer, she went to the said event in hopes of meeting her inspiration.
“So, [Lynch] was like, ‘Could you do an event that’s a charity event?’ I was in the middle of tour. I was exhausted, but I really love David Lynch, and I heard that Jerry Seinfeld’s gonna be there.”
The pop star was disheartened after Jerry Seinfeld declined to hug her. This resonates with the old saying that one should never meet their heroes.
“Then, I get to the f—king charity event, and I got really excited because he brings me peace and love and all things good in the universe, and then he didn’t hug me in front of cameras. It was the most depressing and hilarious, but also so sad — it was, like, the saddest moment of my life.”
On the other hand, Seinfeld explained his side via his interview with Extra TV. The comedian said he only stood by his principle of not hugging a total stranger. He also remarked that they should have previous interactions before they make any physical contact.
“When you get to be my age, and you’ve done a couple things, you have your own reality. In my reality, I don’t hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere. Hug isn’t first moment of a human, two humans. I never did that.”
Seinfeld thought he would have liked the pop star had they met a different way. Nonetheless, it happened already, and there’s nothing they can do to reverse the situation.
“I got a borderline harassment case here! I’m sure I would’ve liked her, but I need to know who are you.”
The actor remarked in the same conversation that he and Kesha just laughed it off behind the camera, but she still did not get a hug from him.
Kesha Felt Bitter After Jerry Seinfeld Refused To Hug Her
The disappointing encounter with Seinfeld took an emotional toll on the singer, as she revealed in an interview on SiriusXM:
“I had a moment where I was thinking to myself, ‘Maybe I should stop trying to hug everyone and attack them.’ And then I was like, f—k that, no. I love hugging. Hugging is magical, hugging is beautiful. It’s a beautiful exchange of wonderful soul energy. ‘I accept you.’ It’s this beautiful connection.”
It was indeed a very embarrassing moment caught on camera, but she learned her lesson while Seinfeld simply stuck to his ideals.
