While the plot lines include various intense runs-ins between Hulk and the X-Men, one particular storyline involving a massive duel between the mutants and the Avenger proved to be extremely violent even by the raging superhero’s standards. This narrative continues to be one of the most aggressive stories written in the comic books.

This Hulk Vs X-Men Battle Still Makes Marvel Fans’ Stomachs Churn

The World War Hulk: X-Men comic book series is a three-issue miniseries published by Marvel comics that deals with various intertwining storylines involving the mutants and the mighty Avenger. While the series involves a lot of intense confrontations between these Marvel superheroes, one storyline is particularly gruesome and violent as explained by Comics Unlocked. The events unfold when Hulk’s entire family is destroyed by a bomb orchestrated by the Illuminati. Enraged at this atrocity, Hulk heads back to earth and proceeds to the X Mansion where he unleashes his fury by taking out a whole bunch of young mutants.

One student though, manages to strip Hulk of his healing powers which then allow the other mutants to attack him owing to his weakness. But Hulk being the Hulk, dug deep and channeled his angry avatar even more, which then left the mutants with no chance against him.

He then proceeds to rip apart Colossus’ arms and even made the mighty Wolverine squirm with his threat to repeatedly beat the clawed mutant’s brain to mush. While the Avenger is known for his angry outbursts, this storyline proved that he could take his rage a notch higher and create havoc.

Mark Ruffalo On Why The Hulk May Never Get A Standalone Movie

With so much to explore in Hulk’s character through the World War Hulk series, fans have been eager to see the mighty Avenger get his own standalone film. Among the many actors who have portrayed the character, Mark Ruffalo’s relatable and down-to-earth interpretation of the Avenger in the MCU has made him one of the most popular choices for the role among fans.

With most of the cast including Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth getting their own films to develop their characters, Ruffalo’s version of the Hulk was seen as very deserving of a film. With the popular World War Hulk comics as foundation, the general opinion was that the Spotlight actor would have a great reference point to add further nuance to the character.

But Ruffalo recently dashed all hopes when he revealed that this may not be a possibility at all. In an exclusive interview with GQ, the Marvel alum spoke of the financial challenges involved in creating the CGI technology to develop the various aspects of the character in a film.

“I’d love to do a standalone Hulk, I just don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!”

While this is sad news for Marvel and Ruffalo fans, it also does not bode well for the franchise which is currently going through a patchy phase following the failure of its recent films and series. Time will tell if Marvel can bounce back strongly after the departure of its mainstays like Evans, Robert Downey Jr, and Ruffalo.
