Jeremy Renner became the leading man in the TV series Mayor of Kingstown in 2021. The show is currently filming its third season, with the episodes set to premiere later this summer. After playing Hawkeye for the better part of a decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jeremy Renner took a different approach to choosing his project, and ended up with Taylor Sheridan’s crime thriller.

Renner has been part of the film industry for many years, having worked on many acclaimed projects and even getting Oscar nominations for his movies like The Hurt Locker and The Town. Now, he is busy giving a dazzling performance as a fixer-cum-self-proclaimed mayor of a fictional town, crawling with thugs and criminals as well as people of the law.

Jeremy Renner Says Mayor of Kingstown is More Intense Than Hawkeye

Taylor Sheridan projects are not your usual run-of-the-mill ones. From Sicario to Yellowstone to now Mayor of Kingstown, which is stepping into its third season, his writing is intriguingly different. In the show, Jeremy Renner plays the character of the current head of the McLusky family, which runs the prison system in the town of Kingstown.

Mike McLusky, Renner’s character takes on the reigns of the family business after the death of his older brother, and now it’s on him how to run the city and its people, smoothly. Talking to Looper in a previous interview, the actor said:

“I didn’t really realize the difference that we were doing until I saw the first or second episode early on in the process. I’m like, wow, this is pretty intense.”

On comparing it to his other show Hawkeye, he further added:

“This is pretty intense compared to the ‘Hawkeye’ show, and the lighter fare, and the happiness and the Christmas music. And then it’s like, this is the harrowing storytelling of Taylor Sheridan.”

Well, with all his recent shows, we can definitely attest that, if anything, Sheridan’s shows are definitely pretty intense.

Jeremy Renner Is “Strong Enough’ to Return as Hawkeye

After a near-fatal accident on January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner has been giving his all to get back in form. After a snowcat ran him over, causing multiple severe injuries, the actor had to undergo multiple surgeries and months of physiotherapy. But his strong will and determination did not let him deter from the path of healing, and before we knew it, he was already walking. And before the year could end, he was already making red carpet and talk show appearances.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year, speaking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and if he plans to return as Hawkeye, Renner said:

“I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so … if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”

Hawkeye is available for streaming on Disney+.
