Although Mike McLusky dreamt of leaving Kingstown as a kid, following his brother’s death in the first episode of the show, he had to take the reigns of the entire town. But Being a Mayor in this town is reasonably far more arduous than being one in any normal town. However, this didn’t stop Jeremy Renner’s character from giving his best, who tries earnestly to fix the problems of his people.

But it seems that someone like McLusky only exists in fiction, as when Renner was asked whether a figure like Mike McLusky exists in the Hollywood ecosystem, his answer was no.

While not without his faults, throughout the two seasons, we’ve seen McLusky giving his best to help the people of Kingstown with their problems and has seemed sincerely concerned about their well-being. This further explains why he never chose to leave the town despite contemplating leaving in several instances, as he genuinely wants to fix Kingstown.

This is one of the more grounded characters in Jeremy Renner‘s filmography, compared to his other roles, including Hawkeye, which is one of the more grounded heroes in the MCU. But it seems, similar to his role in the MCU, a character like Mike McLusky is only exclusive in the show, as when the actor was asked if a similar figure exists in Hollywood, his answer was no. Per the Hawkeye star, the closest to his Mayor of Kingstown counterpart is a lawyer, who is too a kind of fixer.

Renner said:

‘Not like the mayor, not like the Mayor of Kingstown… I mean lawyer is kind of a fixer in some ways in Hollywood, right?… This guy just, you know, he’s a different kind of fixer.”

Although many felt season 2 might be the last of Mike McLusky following Renner’s snowplow accident last year, fans are now enthralled to see what the upcoming season holds for the Mayor.

While Hollywood might lack a figure like Mike McLusky, who’d be the one to fix everyone’s problems within the industry, personality-wise, Renner is not far from his TV counterpart.

Taylor Handley, who starred in the show alongside the MCU star as his brother, recalled how tough Renner was after sustaining a blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.

He recalled:

“I heard from him 24 hours after the accident and he’s on the road to recovery. He’s a fighter and he’s just so funny. In the midst of this tragedy, he just wants to put you at ease.”

With just over a month away from season 3’s premiere, fans will hope Renner hit it out of the park with his first major role since the snowplow accident.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 will premiere on Paramount Plus on 2 June 2024.
