Jeremy Renner Drops Hints About The Unknown Execution!

The Mayor of Kingstown series premiered back in 2021 and the initial reviews were not so good. Although grabbing the attention of the audience, the series immersed the viewers in its terrible world and it did not hold back while doing so.

When episode 2 of the series was released, Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky (sounds like a name Jake Peralta would give himself) attends an execution with a family. With the criminal being unknown, the death wasn’t really relevant to the storyline of the series and many fans wondered why this death was given so much importance (10 mins of screentime!). In an interview with Collider, Renner alleged that everything shown in the series is important. Even an unfamiliar criminal’s death!

“Taylor [Sheridan] writes it that way because it’s the truth of the matter. We don’t pull any punches. Everything in it is there for a reason. We spend time on that death sequence for a reason.”

He further continued,

“That’s part of what this world is. You don’t just gloss over it. You sit in the room and watch it, and you show the process of the whole thing. It puts you more into that world.”

It has been two seasons but the identity of the criminal or more importantly, his relevance to the story has not been revealed. The answer might lie in what Jeremy Renner says next in his interview and claims that “it’s unapologetic”.

Taylor Sheridan is a writer and showrunner who has been most notably known for creating series like Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown. During his interview, Jeremy Renner stated that the death brought meaning to the series but did not reveal exactly what. Well, this next part here might decipher the code a little.

“That’s part of what this world is. You don’t just gloss over it. You sit in the room and watch it, and you show the process of the whole thing. It puts you more into that world. It’s unapologetic, but it’s truthful. It’s sometimes harrowing, sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes it’s even funny, but there’s something unapologetic about Taylor’s writing.”

With every wound sustained and every death called necessary, Mayor of Kingstown has received some pretty strong reviews since its debut. With two seasons to its name, the show sits at a classic rating of 8.2/10 on IMDB and is available to stream on Paramount+ Apple TV in the U.S.
