Although fans were concerned that Season 2 of Mayor Kingstown would be the final installment following Jeremy Renner’s snowplow accident last year, fortunately, Season 3 is up and running. Previously reflecting on the character, which displays how good Renner is at tackling grey roles, the actor explained why McClusky just doesn’t leave Kingstown once and for all.

Kingstown isn’t the most ideal place that one would choose to settle in, but Mike McClusky, who did contemplate leaving the town for good on several instances, never acted on it.

Reflecting on his character’s reasoning to stay in Kingstown, Jeremy Renner explained that while he doesn’t want to be there, he has accepted the reality as a result of growing up in that environment.

He explained:

“Short answer is no. No, he doesn’t want to fucking be there. [But] there’s the bleakness of the thing, and you don’t know what else to do. This is all you know, in your life, right? When you grew up in a town of prisons where everything in the town is about incarceration… you know, it’s like what else do you do? Where else do you go? Yeah, go to Florida. All your life is known and built around this sort of environment. And these people are products of that environment. So there’s a sadness and acceptance of this sort of thing.”

The inner conflict within his character is one of the most pivotal parts of the show, which despite failing to make a lasting impact on the critics, was raved by fans.

Working on Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 Was Stressful for Jeremy Renner

While being back on Mayor of Kingstown was an exciting experience for the Hawkeye Star, following his accident last year, working on season 3 was more stressful.

Considering it was “freezing cold outside in Pittsburgh, he was “scared of slipping and falling”, as the actor’s lower body strength wasn’t as strong as it was before the snowplow accident.

“I think I’m excited when I’m there and I get in a rhythm there. I’m excited about the character and, of course, all the people involved and all that in the storyline, but for me, I’m just tentative of confidence in work,”

With a month away from premiering, fans will hope the Taylor Sheridan-led show further improves upon its predecessors.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 will premiere on 2 Jun 2024 on Paramount Plus.
