However, all fans were not ready to digest the chaos he created in the Universe or inside the circle of MCU’s elite superhero group, the Avengers. Thanos is the reason for the untimely demise of several Avengers, including fan-favorite Iron Man a.k.a Tony Stark. The Avengers star Jeremy Renner felt bad for the Thanos actor for the hatred he received from several fans.

Jeremy Renner, who played Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye in MCU since the original Avengers movie, felt sorry for the Thanos actor Josh Brolin for the hatred he faced after playing the character. “I think he almost feels bad that he has to play such a bad guy,” Renner said at the Asia Press Conference in Seoul while promoting Avengers: Endgame (via Brie Larson HQ). However, Renner never met Brolin on the set of the movie directly.

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. played one of the most crucial roles in the final movie of The Infinity Saga. He also addressed the crowd after saying that he can “neither confirm nor deny” if he has met his on-screen nemesis. Joining Renner with their co-star Brie Larson, the Tony Stark actor said that he was glad to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has become a cultural moment among fans.

“I am looking out and seeing all of you… some of you hold this cinematic universe close to your heart. It has some symbolism stuff. It’s really coming to be that way for us. I am glad that I am part of witnessing this cultural moment, that’s coming up, and I have a lot of gratitude,” Downey said.

Of course, Brolin was filmed differently for the most part of the movie, which separated the actors. But Renner, despite not meeting him directly, could feel the pain of immense hatred from some fans. Notably, several fans and critics hailed Brolin’s performance as Thanos for making him alive for the big screen.

Brolin had a different idea of excellent performance results after playing a villain. While superheroes receive wide and immense love and reception, Brolin believed that if fans hate him for playing Thanos, it would signify his success playing the villainous role. “I’m in a position just personally where not everybody loves me, and that’s okay,” Brolin told Collider.

“Look, not everybody can be on your side all the time and that’s okay. When playing a character like this, dude, it’s like there’s something — I don’t know any other way to put it, it really turned out to be one of the greatest experiences I’ve had. I’m still not done, but it’s been incredible to be able to work with the Russos, to be able to work with these guys. I had no idea. It’s just a different type of acting, but then when they showed me a little six-minute teaser of a scene that I had done, I was so blown away by how next-level this digital process is and how real it feels.”

The No Country for Old Men star further explained that the most plausible way to measure performance from an actor playing a villain comes from the hatred from fans. He added:

“I don’t know how I could be anything but happy. If everybody hates me at the end of it, I don’t know, will it be worth it if it’s a great movie? Maybe.”

Regardless, Brolin’s depiction of Thanos was a hammer on the nail as the actor terrorized the atmosphere in the MCU with his excellent performance playing the iconic villain.
