James Gunn’s New DCU Stratagem Got Fans Speculating Margot Robbie’s Return

Since taking the reins, our true north has been to bring DC film, TV, animation, and gaming into alignment under a single banner and bring a sense of unity and consistency into the DCU as a whole.

With that promise, fans will be expecting high-quality content from the studio as the DC boss pledged to “create a range of products that are diverse and compelling, and deliver great stand-alone entertainment experiences on every medium” and make sure all of them are part of a larger narrative.

He said that “our characters can move in and out of animation or jump into a game or onto the big screen, but they will remain consistent throughout” which most seemingly means that they will share the same character, history, and even actor.

This elicited speculation from fans that 2021’s The Suicide Squad is now canon. More than that, they also expressed excitement at the possibility of Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. Check out their tweets below:

James Gunn previously claimed The Suicide Squad is not DCU canon when he said on Reddit via the DCEUleaks subreddit that “DC Studios movies (and canon) start with Legacy.”

Margot Robbie Is More Than Ready To Play Harley Quinn Again

Even though James Gunn has not yet confirmed the veracity of The Suicide Squad now becoming canon after his recent announcement, the director has previously expressed enthusiasm for working with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn via Threads:

I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley for a long time. But I’d love to work with her again as Harley or as someone else.

The Barbie star evidently feels the same after she told Entertainment Tonight: “I’m ready to do her again.” She has appeared as the same character in 2016’s Suicide Squad, 2020’s Birds of Prey, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. “I’m always ready for more Harley,” she added.

It seems like the majority of fans want Robbie back as Harley Quinn, and with Gunn and the actress both feeling enthusiastic about it, there’s no reason not to make it happen. The latest report on DCU is one of the first directives that Gunn and Safran have made ever since their installation as heads of DC Studios.
