Anthony Starr has become a household name due to his groundbreaking performance as Homelander, the sinister Superman stand-in in the world of The Boys. Starr has received raved reviews not just from critics, but also from fans, who adore the deliciously narcissistic supervillain. So why wouldn’t Marvel cast the actor to play one of theirs?
Given what a great villain actor Starr is, fans have been speculating which character he could play in any other superhero franchise, specifically, Marvel. Here are 5 villains that we think would suit The Boys actor perfectly, given what the character calls for and how well Anthony Starr does it.
Knull
Knull, the head of the Symbiote hivemind, is one of the most sinister and evil characters in the Marvel Multiverse. Directly connected to the All Black Necro Blade, Knull devices the weapon to kill gods, which is also capable of killing Celestials. As the Spider-Man part of the IP expands, with Tom Holland’s version of the character primed to take on Venom, Knull might be popping up in the MCU anytime soon. And who better to play the character than Anthony Starr? The actor has proved that he can play sinister and calculating well. Plus, being one of the most iconic villains in modern media, Starr would play the all-powerful god of the symbiote with ease, posing a menacing figure for Spider-Man(s) to fight against.
Carnage
Carnage has always been a mainstay of the Spider-Man mythos. Given that the cinematic outing of the web-slinger introduced the symbiote to the mainline Marvel Universe, it is only a matter of time before characters like Venom, Toxin and Carnage face off against Spider-Man. If not the big bad of the symbiote, Anthony Starr could pick up the role of Carnage and his host, Cletus Cassidy. Given that Cassidy is a career criminal and serial killer, Starr could perfectly embody the deep evil that the character requires.
Nuke
Compared to Carnage and Knull, Nuke might be a step down in terms of a villain. However, the character has quite a lot in common with Homelander. Given that Marvel is in the process of redoing Daredevil: Born Again, Nuke could be the perfect fit for a fresh villain in the MCU. and who better to play the unhinged superpowered villain than Anthony Starr? Nuke himself could fit in perfectly in the world of the Boys, showing what a great fit Starr would be for the character.
Sabretooth
While Liev Schrieber played the character to perfection in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Anthony Starr could add a whole new dimension to the role. The character does not come close to the comic counterpart himself, but Anthony Starr could play the more pronounced animosity that is required for such a character. Given that Sabretooth is one of Wolverine’s greatest enemies, the character opposite Hugh Jackman’s version of the X-Men member could have great potential for drama and violence alike.
Dracula
Anyone who has seen Marvel’s version of Count Dracula knows why Anthony Starr is the right actor for the role. With Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing already in the MCU, it is only a matter of time before the famous Vampire makes an appearance in the story. Given the structure of Starr’s face, he could pull off playing Dracula with minimum changes. Further, the sinisterness and darkness required to play the role would come naturally to Starr, given how similar the version of the famous Vampire is to Homelander.
