The Gege Akutami-created Jujutsu Kaisen anime projects are inevitably as impressive as the original manga, if not more. All the favorable colors, themes, and details that MAPPA Studios further added to the fan-favorite manga for the widely loved anime series and movie (Jujutsu Kaisen 0) have made those anime projects all the more captivating.

But despite being a serialized Shonen manga and anime, the anime series and movie both have quite a few instances where the characters have been more s-xualized than their manga counterparts. These instances are the ones where MAPPA Studios went slightly against Gege Akutami’s original drawings of the Jujutsu Kaisen characters and seemingly s-xualized them.

While there have been multiple instances of this, we have compiled below a list of some of the most noticeable differences between the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime. With respect to these characters, it is evident that MAPPA did more than just add a few details to their physical characteristics instead of going by the book — or by what Gege Akutami originally drew.

1. Maki Zen’in Trains Yuta Okkotsu

In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, there’s a scene at the beginning where Maki Zen’in, one of the most skilled Grade 4 sorcerers in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen universe, trains and mentors Yuta Okkotsu, the newly admitted curse bearer, and teaches him how to control his cursed energy.

In this scene, there’s an instance where Maki ducks down and splits her legs on the ground, one forward and one behind her, catching Yuta by surprise, and ends up pulling him down and hitting him on the head.

While this very “split” of Maki in the manga didn’t show much of her, MAPPA took it slightly far in the anime film compared to what Gege Akutami originally drew. Not only was Maki split in the middle with both of her legs resting on her sides in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but her butt under her skirt was visible as well.

2. Yuki Tsukumo’s Suprise Appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen #135

In the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, at the end of chapter 135, Yuki Tsukumo makes a surprise appearance while Yuji Itadori, Choso, and their team are fighting against Suguru Geto. The plan was to save Yuji and meet Geto to seek the long-awaited answer to her question:

“What kind of girls are you into?”

In the manga, Gege Akutami drew Yuki asking this question in an already flirtatious manner. However, MAPPA still decided to take the lead with this as well and ended up improvising in the anime.

As was seen in the 22nd episode of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series season 2, Yuki was drawn even more flirtatiously by MAPPA, with her blowing a kiss to Geto as she asks him the same question she asked long before, while they were still sorcerer students in Jujutsu High.

3. Nanami Kento Becomes Buffier than the Manga

Although Gege Akutami has made sure to make Nanami Kento look as handsome as possible, they somewhat lacked when it came to one particular scene. This scene was in chapter #100 of the manga when Nanami pulls Haruta by his hair to ask him where and how many partners of his were there.

In the manga, Nanami’s face wasn’t given much detail and his hands were even shown grabbing Haruta by his hair, not adding any specifically gawking details into it that could bring in more interest from fans. But, as always, MAPPA tended to differ.

In the 12th episode of the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series, MAPPA made sure to give as much detailing to Nanami’s face as possible as compared to Gege Akutami’s original drawing. Adding to this, they further made him look even buffier and more handsome than what the manga showed.

Plus, this time, Nanami was holding the idiot Haruta by his ponytail instead, showing off his muscular veins in the best way possible. So, another plus point to MAPPA for drawing Nanami as the actual hot guy that he is!

4. Mahito Flaunts his Muscular Six-Pack Abs

Mahito may be one of the most hated antagonists in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen saga, but MAPPA made sure to make him look as handsome as possible. This included adding six-pack abs to his plainly drawn body by Gege Akutami.

In Jujutsu Kaisen manga, there is a scene where Mahito and Geto are relaxing at the beach and Mahito asks Geto about any guards. In the illustration drawn in the manga, even though Mahito is partly naked, he doesn’t seem to be showing off any ripped abs.

However, MAPPA corrected this “falling short” of Gege Akutami in detailing Mahito’s body by adding on some gorgeous six-packs on the unregistered special-grade cursed spirit, making fans absolutely drool while Mahito showed off his ripped physique!

5. Choso’s Ripped Body Gets More Detailed

One of the scenes of the Jujutsu Kaisen saga saw Choso predicting Yuji Itadori‘s attack beforehand, and thus, directing the same to a hardened section of his body.

On the one hand, in the manga, Choso is only seen showing off a part of his side where Yuji hits him instead of pulling his shirt farther back to show too much of his body, as per Gege Akutami’s wishes. MAPPA, on the other hand, decided to make this drawing a bit more interesting.

In the anime, not only does Choso have an even more unbothered bad-boy look but he even pulls his top a bit too far to reveal his whopping six-pack abs — something that has been nothing short of some serious delights to most fans.

Jujutsu Kaisen manga can be read on Manga Plus while the Jujutsu Kaisen anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
