Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. are now into their fifth wild and frightful decade of adventure. Over the years, Scooby-Doo has embarked on some truly bizarre team-ups with characters from the DC Universe, creating some of the most unexpected and entertaining crossovers in animation history.
This isn’t an odd thing – as the likes of Batman: The Animated Series also used to get cameos of its characters in various shows. Similarly, the gang also used to appear in various setups in live action, whether it be the DC Universe, the Star Wars Universe, or even a crossover with real-life superstars, such as WWE athletes, and Hollywood actors.
1. John Cena – Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery
Barely scratching the surface of their appeal, they proved their wide-ranging appeal when in 2014 they released, Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery, a movie in which the team is flung into a wild-rumpus adventure with WWE superstar John Cena. This animated movie casts Scooby and the gang into a spooky situation at the WWE headquarters
With a mysterious ghostly bear causing chaos, it’s up to Scooby, Shaggy, and the rest of the crew, alongside Cena, to unmask the culprit and save the day. Placing the anarchy and slapstick humor of Scooby-Doo with the motley crew of WWE into the world of professional wrestling, all join to provide loads of fun in this unexpected pairing.
2. Jensen Ackles – Scoobynatural
Probably the most inspired of all crossovers, the CW series Supernatural crashed onto Scooby-Doo with Scoobynatural, a 2018 episode. The live-action episode kind of straddled that deftly between the dark and grisly world of the Winchester brothers and Castiel as they wander through the set and the light world of Scooby nonsense.
When a revenge-seeking phantom haunts a Scooby-Doo cartoon, the trio works with Mystery Inc. to crack the case. The episode was a send-up of each while providing an effective way of bringing it to an end. Cited by critics for its affectionate touches, such as humor, meta-references, and unity of both series, the nostalgic episode was largely lauded.
3. Mark Hamill – The Sword, the Fox, and the Scooby-Doo!
In that crazy spirit, the change-up year of 2020 reads The Sword, the Fox, and the Scooby-Doo! For an event that looks like quite the improbable cross-over, a special guest star in a rare turn as himself is Mark Hamill. The gang shortchanged on fun, is re-charged on their way to the middle of nowhere, Japan, when Mark Hamill hits town.
However, a terrible Fox Monster has attacked the reunion and kidnapped one of Hamill’s favorite old teachers. It helps that the crew has a specific aim in mind: helping Hamill bring down the monster and reunite him with his teacher. The episode features many references to Hamill’s career, including his roles in Star Wars and Batman: The Animated Series.
4. Teen Titans Go – Cartoon Feud
In 2019, one of Cartoon Network’s prime night events, Cartoon Feud, went on with most of the characters from the other Cartoon Network shows such as Scooby-Doo and Teen Titans Go! The trivia contest did not bear the classic team-up form, but rather it was a funny performance between the two groups
The episode threw us directly into the pointing finger of sarcasm that followed the kind of characters we have been accustomed to all along, and even more so, the patterns and personalities assigned to them in the show. The moment when the gang had to deal with Robbin, Starfire, or Cyborg made some laugh-out-loud moments.
5. Batman – The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair
One of the earliest crossovers for Scooby-Doo was most likely way long back in 1972 when a show called The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair was on air. Here the film combo Scooby and his mates team up with the then Hanna-Barbera heroes, Batman and Robin.
Noticing the duo of Joker and Penguin posing a threat to the town, Mystery Inc. joins the Caped crusader to defeat them on time. The crossover, however, highlighted how Scooby and Batman were able to combine their comedic mystery-solving with working together, therefore, allowing for a blend of action and humor that was unique.
