The next installment of the MCU The Marvels will be released on November 10. The Brie Larson starrer sees her Captain Marvel team up with Kamala Khan a.k.a Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau a.k.a Photon to defeat the Kree warrior Dar-Benn. The film is also set to be a multiversal story like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
In the anticipation leading up to the release, it is necessary for any Marvel fan to do their homework to catch all the references and easter eggs that are sure to be there in the film. While fans may not be required to watch all thirty-two films and nine TV shows to follow the plot of The Marvels, here are six things to know before watching the Brie Larson starrer.
1. The Powers of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel
Brie Larson made her debut as Carol Danvers in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. The film was a huge hit as it was the predecessor to the climax of the ‘infinity saga’, Avengers: Endgame. It was also the first female-led superhero film of the MCU. The film is set in the 1990s and also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
Captain Marvel followed Danvers, an ex-US Air Force pilot and a member of the Kree, a humanoid species of military aliens and an advanced race in the galaxy. She receives powers from the Space Stone which, along with her Kree heritage makes her one of the most powerful beings on the planet.
The Marvels is a direct sequel to the Brie Larson starrer and she is even connected to the other two superheroes in some way. The end of the film sets up many future villains and the feud between the Skrulls and the Kree is not yet over.

2. Relationship Between Captain Marvel And Monica Rambeau
Monica Rambeau makes a grand appearance in the Disney Plus series WandaVision as part of the secret organization S.W.O.R.D. She gains powers and becomes the superhero Photon. She will be seen in The Marvels joining hands and swapping powers with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan.
Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers has a special relationship with Monica Rambeau as her mother Maria is Danvers’ best friend in the film. A young Monica appears in Captain Marvel and is called ‘Lieutenant Trouble’ by Danvers as a joke and she calls her Aunt Carol. The two have never met since Captain Marvel goes off to save the galaxy and will be meeting for the first time in years in The Marvels.
3. Kamala Khan Is A Huge Fan Of Carol Danvers
The third superhero in this team-up film is the young superhero Kamala Khan. Khan is a teenager who possesses cosmic powers. She was first seen in the Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel and will be seen teaming up with both Captain Marvel and Photon.
In the series, it is established that Khan is a huge fan of Carol Danvers and idolizes the Avengers. She has a YouTube channel that is dedicated to fan content on superheroes. Her Ms. Marvel suit is a redesigned version of Captain Marvel’s suit. She ends up switching places with Danvers in a Freaky Friday-like fashion at the end of the series after she is revealed to be a mutant.
4. Major Cameos That Introduce Beloved Characters To The MCU
Marvel recently released the final trailer of The Marvels which hints at the appearance of major superheroes in the film. The trailer sets up the plot of the Kree warrior Dar-Ben tearing a hole in spacetime that causes the three superheroes to switch places and use each others’ powers. But, there are also hints at a Spider-Man: No Way Home-type of multiversal jump and appearances from other heroes.
Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury says, “They’re here” at the end of the trailer, with many fans speculating that the ‘they’ means the X-Men. The fan-favorite superheroes are yet to make their MCU and will be releasing their first MCU outing with Deadpool 3. Since Kamala Khan is said to be a mutant, the X-Men making a cameo is well within reason.
5. The Effects Of Secret Invasion On The Marvels
The MCU’s most recent Disney Plus series Secret Invasion was one of its worst-rated shows ever. Unfortunately, the series directly ties into The Marvels as Nick Fury and the Kree-Skrull war are heavily featured in the series.
The end of Secret Invasion puts forth the potential of peace talks between the Skrulls and the Kree, but the death of the Skrull leader Talos still weighs heavy. Talos’ daughter G’iah becomes one of the most powerful superheroes in the universe as she absorbs powers from all the heroes in the MCU. Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers might be the only superhero powerful enough to be a threat to her.
6. The Multiversal Saga
The MCU is currently going through its fifth phase of films and TV shows, and the current storyline is known as the ‘Multiverse Saga’. Films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, and series such as Loki have explored the multiverse. With Dar-Ben tearing a hole through space-time, it is likely that she would be opening yet another multiversal hole for variants to travel to and from.
